  1. Yep. And the value of his 2018 postseason performance can't even be measured.
  2. FanGraphs has Price at a 2.6 WAR and $20.7 million equivalent free agent dollars for the season to date. He hasn't been earning his full salary since we got him, but he's far from a bust too.
  3. The protection thing is predicated on the idea that Mookie is now getting better pitches to hit. That's something that should be detectable in the pitch data. I don't have the data so I can't comment on that. On an 'anecdotal' basis, though, from reading game threads, what some posters were saying about Mookie when he was in a funk was that he was getting good pitches and not swinging at them, his approach was too passive. Again, that would be in the pitch data.
  4. I'm very skeptical that it has anything to do with it. Certainty either way is impossible.
  5. What you said was crap and I pointed it out. If you can't deal with it, that's your problem.
  6. That's pretty wild considering Eovaldi only has 4 starts.
  7. WAR isn't a debate-ender. That's a straw man.
  8. Yeah, this offense is so bad, it's hard to believe it leads the majors in runs per game. Sandy Leon is a defensive backup catcher. Most teams have one.
  9. But numbers should back it up. Mookie had his career season in 2018 with Beni hitting behind him. Now we're supposed to believe Mookie's recent hot streak is only because they put someone better than Beni behind him?
  10. Yeah, well, it's nothing but crickets on the Beni thing.
  11. What sometimes gets overlooked is that WAR is a 'counting stat', not a 'rate stat'. Quantity is a big part of it.
  12. He won't be a savior but he can certainly upgrade it.
  13. Beni had an .809 OPS batting second in 2018. He has an .809 OPS batting second in 2019.
  14. So how do we explain Mookie's OPS being about 200 points higher in 2018 with Beni hitting behind him? These theories fall apart if you actually take the time to dig into the numbers.
  15. The way I look at WAR, it's an excellent *starting point* when analyzing a player's performance.
  16. However you look at it, today was very encouraging. Sale is an intense competitor and I'm sure he's been working his ass off.
  17. That's exactly why I don't like looking at things that way. If you just say we're 3 games out of a Wild Card spot on July 18 it doesn't sound nearly as daunting.
  18. In this game Mookie Betts tied Ted Williams' franchise record of 13 straight games in one season with a run scored.
  19. Eovaldi pitched an inning for the PawSox today. 3 K's and a walk.
  20. Eovaldi pitched an inning for the PawSox today. 3 K's and a walk.
  21. He's a pretty good shell.
  22. Triple fail post, nice job.
  23. I suspect that opposing teams have a game plan of trying to make our starters throw as many pitches as possible.
  24. The Yankees & Rays games before July 31 should push the needle one way or the other.
  25. Far worse, in fact. If we extrapolate the current record to 50 games to equate to 2018, the record would be 5-45, or 8 games worse.
