  1. All we know is what's come out to the public. But there is some evidence of Henry being involved in certain big transactions. Just a few examples that come to mind: 1) When the Red Sox met with Teixeira and Boras, it was Henry who announced afterward, rather disgustedly, that the Sox were not going to be signing him. 2) He made the statement about it not being a good idea to sign long term deals with pitchers over 30, or words to that effect. 3) Regarding the Sale extension, he said that the team made a mistake in how they handled the Lester negotiations and that they didn't want to do the same thing with Sale.
  2. The changes they made with free agent compensation really have an impact on decisions like this one. Theo used to feast on the compensation picks.
  3. So we're not necessarily at the cliff?
  4. By the same token, a team that trades with us for Betts is going to have to pay him at close to a top free agent salary. So how much should they be willing to give up in prospect capital?
  5. Yes, you've been cleared. You're free to go.
  6. What's funny is that you said this at the time of the signing (I just bumped the thread): Very happy with this deal. Some TJ's turn out super. Some not so much. This one has looked to be positively bionic. A risk well worth taking IMO.
  7. Bump
  8. 4 * 17 is by no means TOR money, of course.
  9. But that's speculation too. Moncada was the centerpiece of that trade.
  10. If fans had their way, the best players would never have a day off until the team either clinches or is eliminated.
  11. It's natural for fans to think that way. I don't think GM's think that way when they're laying out $68 mill.
  12. The cold air makes arms more brittle.
  13. The hindsight jury - I like that one a lot. And they can be out for years sometimes.
  14. Yes, the innings totals tend to get knocked down by Tommy John surgery. He actually pitched 133.1 innings last year, if you would be so kind as to admit postseason innings as innings that should count.
  15. Not much of a comp. Showalter's mistake was waiting till he had a lead to use his closer.
  16. Eovaldi pitched pretty well last year in the regular season. He added a cutter to his repertoire and his K/BB ratio improved dramatically. There were reportedly a bunch of other teams interested in him. I get questioning the deal because of his health history. But the idea that they signed him strictly for his postseason is dumb.
  17. I don't think this deal had much to do with the firing. We'll never know of course. But JH appeared to be behind this 100%, saying they didn't want to make the same mistake they made with Lester. As for the health of Sale's arm, DD isn't a doctor and he had to rely on the team's medical staff.
  18. Were there any good days/nights to do it though?
  19. Betts, Bogey and Devers have had very limited rest days this year. They are all among the leaders in games played.
  20. Eovaldi pitched 22.1 excellent innings in the 2018 postseason...look it up for Christ's sake.
  21. Settle down a bit, Jax. Eovaldi's injuries the last 2 seasons haven't been major. Just a wee bit of negative bias in your forecast.
  22. And if the toggle switch on Sale's arm goes back to awesome, they'd probably rather have him. They didn't just sign him up for $145 mill for funsies.
  23. It was his mo last year, too, but the results were a lot different.
  24. In retrospect, statements like this one and 'there are no offseason surgeries planned that I know of' tend to support the whole 'disconnect' theme in DD's departure...
