  1. You just pointed out two of the things the Red Sox had to overcome in beating the Astros last year.
  2. No, he's been posting. Give the guy a break.
  3. I want to see living proof of it.
  4. I keep bringing up Theo because: -Most people agree he's the best or one of the best. -The Cubs are one of the big payroll teams like us. -The Cubs had a great farm, like us, and now they don't, like us. -Like you said, Theo has operated a lot like Dombrowski starting in 2016.
  5. I'll take an anticlimactic World Series win over a heartbreaking World Series loss any day.
  6. Of course. Any arguments to the contrary are just silly, frankly.
  7. I do believe that 'bright lights' pressure is a real thing too. So do the Yankees, apparently - they traded Sonny Gray because of his exorbitant ERA in Yankee Stadium.
  8. What about the pressure on a guy just trying to hang on in the big leagues and knowing there isn't much waiting for him after his baseball career ends? And guessing that one or two more 0-fers might trigger a DFA? Different kinds of pressure.
  9. My argument is that there are different kinds of pressure. I think we sometimes try to simplify things too much.
  10. The Yankees have tied a record with 4 straight LCS losses.
  11. I'm sizing Stanton up as an albatross. Wouldn't shock me if they try to trade him and eat a chunk of money.
  12. "Some of dubious validity" - I love it.
  13. If you're going to discuss clutch as a real thing you should be using real players and making a case. I tend to go with postseason numbers because, as notin said, they're easy to obtain. And if I had to pick one player to try to make a case with, I'd go with Schilling.
  14. A reasonable definition of high leverage can be produced. The main principle is that it's a situation in a game that has a big impact on win expectancy. For me the thing that's missing is the leverage of the game.
  15. They're looking to cut payroll. Trading Beni doesn't. Trading JBJ does.
  16. There might be some shenanigans going on, but I don't think it's a total fix. I'm pretty sure the Raptors were not the team they wanted to see as the Eastern representative last season.
  17. True, but close to half the U. S. population lives in the Eastern time zone.
  18. I mostly agree, but as Sox fans we can't really complain, because we still do have an advantage over teams like the Rays. We can spend about triple what they can on payroll.
  19. The coup de grace.
  20. OK I have to stand up for one thing here. There's no evidence that he hit her AFAIK. If anyone has facts to the contrary let's see them. I would certainly hope that the case would not have been handled the way it was, with the charges being conditionally dismissed, if his wife had signs of being beaten up when the cops arrived.
  21. You know this how?
  22. There are more and more factors militating against sustained success, Kimmi. High finishes = low draft position. Limitations on international free agent spending. Higher arbitration salaries. Luxury tax. Look at Theo and the Cubs.
  23. In support of your point: Reggie Jackson said (after the series of course) that after the Angels blew Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS to us, he knew they had no chance to win one of the games back in Boston. The scores were 10-4 and 8-1.
  24. I like what Earl Weaver said: 'Momentum is the next day's starting pitcher.'
