  1. Just about everyone said it was an overpay for Kimbrel. I don't think it was said very much about Sale.
  2. In the entertainment world, I guess.
  3. They announced that prices will go up and some will go down depending on the classification of the game. Overall the prices will be 1.7% higher.
  4. The big question for me is how they can possibly get under the 208 million for 2020 and do it without pissing off a lot of fans.
  5. Johnson was a very useful part of the 2018 staff. Unfortunately couldn't repeat in 2019. Hopefully he still has a future in the game.
  6. The Red Sox owners have made piles of money on the increase in the value of the franchise. As far as the profit or loss for 2019, only they really know for sure. We know they had the highest payroll in baseball and paid 13 million + in luxury tax for an 84-78 record. JH's general message seemed to be that he didn't mind spending to that level for a championship team, but for an 84-78 team, not so much. Especially when the Rays spent a fraction and won 96 games.
  7. I don't think the Sale trade was considered a big overpay.
  8. I think history shows that you're more likely to get an overpay by the other team on a deadline trade. Teams with a shot at a title are often willing to give up more than they're getting.
  9. harmony agrees with you. His response was to 5GoldGloves.
  10. One thing for sure about Morris, he pitched a hell of a game in that 1991 WS Game 7.
  11. So then you have to relate this to Nolan Ryan and Bert Blyleven, who had mediocre W-L records and few postseason appearances because they were generally on bad teams.
  12. A pitcher's Won-Lost record is mostly for funsies because it's based on arbitrary rules. You can pitch great and get a loss or pitch lousy and get a win. This is pretty obvious. WAR and WAA are meant to be a true evaluation of a player's contributions to team wins.
  13. So what does the Sox ad campaign look like right now? "We're raising prices and slashing payroll to improve our bottom line. Won't you help us?" "Mookie Betts - will he be here or won't he? Buy now, find out later!"
  14. Prospective ticket buyers are in the dark about a lot of things. Including the status of Chris Sale, who still hasn't had that followup visit with Dr. Andrews that was supposedly scheduled for 'mid-November'.
  15. In retrospect, I'm not sure what the Red Sox were thinking when they made the big statement about trying to get under the $208 million mark. Hopefully they're freaking out a little about ticket sales and realize they're going to take a bath if they stick to that plan.
  16. It's pretty bad when the only half-interesting news items are the Astros cheating investigation and the Yankees trying to withhold Ellsbury's salary.
  17. Some folks here expressed the opinion that JD must have talked to the Red Sox about the trade stuff before he made his decision. And that they told him they wouldn't be trading him. I think Sam Kennedy said the team was thrilled about him not opting out.
  18. I'm just thinking, 2020 might be the year to try things you might normally not do. Especially cheap things. And things that might provide some entertainment.
  19. Thanks for the news flash, harms.
  20. I'd think about Buch too, of course. This might be a good year to try anything LOL
  21. Texas has been a rather unfriendly ballpark for David.
  22. Nothing to lose, really.
  23. Let's try to be a little optimistic about Sale.
  24. https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/19605-Postseason-standings-for-the-last-20-years
  25. Well, for starters, we're already over the limit.
