FORT MYERS, Fla. -- J.D. Martinez offered an interesting bit of information when appearing on OMF Thursday. Evidently, the Red Sox were prepared for the Astros' system of cheating heading into the 2018 playoffs. Appearing with Glenn Ordway, Lou Merloni and Christian Fauria at JetBlue Park, Martinez explained how he first heard about Houston's method of stealing signs from Mike Fiers via a text message and not his Red Sox manager Alex Cora. "You can put me on any lie detector. Alex Cora never influenced us and never told us about that thing," Martinez said. "The only way I ever found out was in the playoffs when Fiers, who is a very good friend of mine, he reached out to me and said, ‘Hey, make sure you’re doing this because this is what these guys are doing in the playoffs.’ I was like, ‘What?! How is this a thing?’ And then I mentioned it to Alex and he told me about the whole system and everything like that. That was why it was so crazy. He was so relaxed going into those playoff games because we we ready for it."
