  1. Just the way Bloom likes it...
  2. In this case motivated by no more than sheer boredom...
  3. I'd argue that a salary dump of a Hall of Famer belongs in a special category.
  4. They just wanted to get the game threaders off to a good start.
  5. And Grady Little's bench coach in 2003.
  6. Henry made his fortune in the commodities market, didn't he? What you seem to be saying is that shrewd investing/trading is a form of theft, even if it's done in a way that's perfectly legal.
  7. Yay, game threads are back.
  8. OK 96 postseason Fielder vs 18 postseason Pearce Fielder 14 games 59 PA 308/390/519 909 OPS 3 HR 14 RBI Pearce 13 games 47 PA 289/426/658 1083 OPS 4 HR 11 RBI Now add Eovaldi to Pearce. I doubt many teams, if any, had a better pair of acquisitions in terms of postseason performance.
  9. One thing you have to say for DD, he did pretty good with those 2018 deadline trades. How many teams have made deadline acquisitions that have helped win a ring as much as Eovaldi and Pearce? Before you say "but he shouldn't have re-signed them", at least consider that question.
  10. The inclusion of Buttrey is questionable. Are you saying we shouldn't have traded for Kinsler, or that we could have got him for less?
  11. Well, she just posted this: "The Yankees are toast before the season even starts!"
  12. LOL that was Gabe Gross. I had to look it up. Greg played for the Phils.
  13. 3-0 final. Bloom has turned our pitching around already!
  14. My money is on a reprise of Rent-a-Wreck.
  15. What about Greg?
  16. Well, as us accountants often tell our clients, it's a mistake to think tax rules are necessarily fair or logical.
  17. You baseball addict you!
  18. Some guys do get away with no operation. Tanaka, Price. Hopefully Sale.
  19. Sevy is now pretty close to being officially "injury-plagued" at age 26.
  20. But a team that gives that kind of contract is paying extra in the first few years. That's not really that beneficial. You're only looking at the tax part, not the total real cost. It's a zero sum game, for the most part.
  21. Buchholz. When he was pitching a good game I always found it a little more exciting than I should have.

  23. FORT MYERS, Fla. -- J.D. Martinez offered an interesting bit of information when appearing on OMF Thursday. Evidently, the Red Sox were prepared for the Astros' system of cheating heading into the 2018 playoffs. Appearing with Glenn Ordway, Lou Merloni and Christian Fauria at JetBlue Park, Martinez explained how he first heard about Houston's method of stealing signs from Mike Fiers via a text message and not his Red Sox manager Alex Cora. "You can put me on any lie detector. Alex Cora never influenced us and never told us about that thing," Martinez said. "The only way I ever found out was in the playoffs when Fiers, who is a very good friend of mine, he reached out to me and said, ‘Hey, make sure you’re doing this because this is what these guys are doing in the playoffs.’ I was like, ‘What?! How is this a thing?’ And then I mentioned it to Alex and he told me about the whole system and everything like that. That was why it was so crazy. He was so relaxed going into those playoff games because we we ready for it." In terms of carrying over any of the elements of the cheating system from Houston to Boston, Martinez said that never happened with Cora during the former manager's tenure with the Red Sox. "He was amazing at picking up things the right way," Martinez said of Cora. "These guys here, the guys that we have, they’re so good at every little thing. Any little hiccup they’ll find it. But you can put me on any detector you want, I’ll volunteer it. That never happened here." As for the current investigation of the Red Sox, the designated hitter is baffled by the insinuations. "It’s one of those things where I don’t understand it. I’ve talked and given my side of it, they heard me and I guess we’re just waiting to see what happens," he said.
  24. The Twelfth of Never, in other words.
