  1. Can't say that for sure. What if we miss the playoffs by 3 games, and Betts has an 8 win season and Verdugo has a 2 win season?
  2. I do understand, up to a point, why they go for as much money as possible. I think a lot of it is male ego for sure. I think part of it is they don't want to be the guy who 'left money on the table'. It's almost a sign of weakness to do that.
  3. Castillo will have drained 72.7 million from the team coffers. Not much tax though, if any!
  4. Let's face it, the trade will be scrutinized by the hindsight jury all season.
  5. They actually only won 84 last year.
  6. Guaranteed. The only other remotely similar case I can think of is Kei Igawa. I think that was 'only' 24 million or so.
  7. To clarify: only two players with last name Eshelman in MLB history.
  8. TOM Eshelman pitching for O's. Weird because Vaughn Eshelman's name came up recently and Tom appears to be the only other MLB player by that name, but no relation to Vaughn.
  9. FWIW Roenicke says Verdugo is ahead of schedule and may be able to play in spring games by mid-March.
  10. Obviously few will have any sympathy for him because of how much money he's making, but as a baseball player he did kind of get screwed by MLB, in the way they closed their own loophole in the tax rules, and effectively forced the Red Sox to keep him in the minors.
  11. You guys would probably have Alex Speier on a lot, way more than he's on now. (Sorry, I couldn't resist that joke. even though I know it leaves a huge opening for 700hitter to make some vicious crack about stat nerds with pocket protectors.)
  12. We should all be thankful that Remy is still with us, in more ways than one.
  13. He seems to be working his way up the ladder toward bench coach or manager, Kimmi.
  14. Some of the players that appear in spring games will never appear in an MLB game, and some of them probably even know it.
  15. The Hawk set a homer announcing standard that can never be equaled.
  16. jung cares. jung also cares if JBJ strikes out in his first at-bat in a spring game. He's just a caring guy...
  17. I remember it. It was indeed the Jets, vs. Miami. I don't remember it being a disaster, but it was certainly weird. And the weirdness was to be expected, since it was such a radical difference.
  18. No worries, won't be seeing him in anything but a PawSox uniform anyway.
  19. Better get ready for a crazy level of negativity about the team this year, Slash.
  20. I agree that Orsillo is better than O'Brien.
  21. What I'm reading is that an optimistic return date is May 1.
  22. Never really got the love for Orsillo. I thought he was kind of a chubby, cheerful, and decidedly inferior version of Sean McDonough.
  23. Now here's a man-crush...
