  1. Why incur the expense?
  2. It looks like that's the way teams are seeing it.
  3. Nobody seems to want much to do with Puig. I think I read that the Giants offered him a one year deal and he turned it down.
  4. Yeah, but we made out like bandits on Mookie Betts. All thanks to this deadly plague!
  5. It's not just the time factor, it's the annoyance factor of pitchers facing one batter and managers imitating Joe Maddon. I don't think this is being touted as the cure-all for long games.
  6. Anything that reduces the number of pitching changes and prevents those innings where 3 pitchers face 3 batters is good with me. Maybe the impact won't be huge, but I don't see why that in itself is a problem. The roster expansion is a whole different issue. They should probably do something about that too.
  7. Hard disagree on that one. We could take a poll on it, but there aren't too many people here with their minds on baseball right now.
  8. Not small - they look good.
  9. How did you arrive at your low opinion of the game, other than that quote attributed to Twain?
  10. Yes, a lot of people say baseball is boring. I'm a Canadian who doesn't watch hockey because I find it boring. (It wasn't always that way.) Different strokes for different folks, as always.
  11. You'll never hear someone who can actually play the game say that, though.
  12. You may have a good argument. I suppose one of the reasons I could defend Sale and Syndergaard is because their procedures were uncommon.
  13. I say no. Golf is a very popular sport. But it's totally unimportant to non-golf fans, which most of Talksox seems to be. Each of us decides what's important to us.
  14. As I said, popularity is objective. Importance is subjective.
  15. I don't watch any US college sports any more, because of all the corruption.
  16. Popularity is certainly objective. Importance is subjective, right?
  17. But does it really matter if football is more popular than baseball now? Baseball is still pretty big.
  18. If you did make that argument, I would probably have to agree with it.
  19. No, it's not good news.
  20. Yes, things seem to vary quite a bit from state to state in that union of yours.
  21. Translation: Dr. James Andrews is a wealthy old bugger who doesn't really need the money that much and would prefer to look righteous to the public. (I'm kidding!)
  22. Newfoundlander in Boston to Harvard student: "Hey b'y, which way is Fenway Park to?" Harvard student (after shaking his head in disgust): "Don't you know you're not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition?" Newfoundlander: "Okay, which way is Fenway Park to, arsehole?"
  23. I think that now that they are looking at playing without crowds, there will be games.
  24. It has to be yes on the Blue Jays.
