  1. The Twins have lost 18 postseason games in a row.
  2. Wow, runs are scarce so far in today's games.
  3. A couple of interesting facts about Schiraldi in that game. 1) He actually blew the save twice, having giving up the tying run in the bottom of the eighth. 2) He pitched 2.2 innings and threw 55 pitches. By today's standards, McNamara left him in way too long.
  4. I was referring to this. Aguilera was the Mets pitcher he hit it off. Years later, Aguilera would have his own big moment for the Red Sox, and it was not a good one.
  5. What matters is you appreciate that Mueller's hit was as important as Roberts's stolen base.
  6. Subsequent events do play a big role in how some events are viewed. If we hadn't won Games 5, 6 and 7, Bill Mueller's heroic exploits would have been viewed somewhat like Dave Henderson's in 1986.
  7. I'm sure it won't be the plan to be deadline sellers. The health status of certain starting pitchers will be a big factor.
  8. If they trade Eovaldi, I won't be heartbroken, but I'll be pissed.
  9. Ah yes, but us wise Sox fans know all about Mueller.
  10. Hey, speak for yourself. We don't all have hearts of stone and only root for the laundry.
  11. Arguing whether is was a cheap shot or not is kind of missing the point. Whether it's true or not, that incident was credited with helping to turn the 2004 season around for the Sox. They had lost a tough one to the Yanks the night before, and they were losing this game. They were not playing well. And this was the game in which Mueller hit the home run off Rivera for a stunning Sox victory.
  12. So the top candidates appear to be: Matt Quatraro - as first mentioned here by notin Alex Cora
  13. Good, clear statement from Kennedy.
  14. Both from the Peavy trade.
  15. We've had 2 JD free agents, and 2 Drew free agents...
  16. Other 2004 free agents: Johnny Damon Bill Mueller Keith Foulke Mike Timlin
  17. Richard.
  18. There doesn't seem to be much "traction" toward that. New CBA coming soon though.
  19. The Red Sox have obviously blown a ton of money on underperforming free agents. In spite of that, the net return of investing in free agents has been a large contribution to 4 titles and to a massive growth in the value of the franchise.
  20. That's the way you have to be when you're running the Rays.
  21. Depends what you're including in the $60M.
  22. This should be the ultimate goal with Mitch. Keep signing him, but for less money each time.
  23. Varitek played a key role in us winning two titles. Crawford was a colossal bust for us. I don't think he had the cred to be 'calling out' Varitek for anything.
  24. Roenicke was Cora's bench coach. Maybe firing Roenicke is not a good sign for Cora's return?
