  1. The Twins themselves. Several sources have said they're looking for a closer on the cheap after losing out on Nathan. The Angels have a closer, so i don't see how those rumors hold water. The Jays may be "looking" but do you really think they'll be big players for a high-priced closer with all the holes they have? Realistically, the Sox can pick and choose a closer at their price. Won't be as good as Paps but should represent lower risk in years and dollars.
  2. The only manager i would have personally liked over Valentine was Mike Maddux because of his success dealing with pitchers, but he wasn't a possibility because he simply didn't want to come to Boston.
  3. Nope, i'm not a doctor, but i've done some research on the subject for academic purposes.
  4. The WS champion Cards have a closer who was very effective during the playoffs, the Jays are looking for reclamation projects or a cheap option, the Angels have Walden, the Reds are looking at internal options, and the Twins and Padres don't have the money.
  5. Poor horse. Keeps getting beaten even though it's beyond dead.
  6. Who? Pretty much everyone that needed a closer except the Twins already has one, and you can be certain the Twins aren't paying 11 mill + per year for Madson.
  7. The recovery from TJ surgery usually begets an increase in velocity but loss of control (at least initially) for the pitcher. Because of Dice-K's specific case, no one can really know what to expect after he recovers.
  8. Colon did not have TJ surgery. He had stem cell injections on his shoulder.
  9. There's a huge different between 3/33 and 4/50 with an easily reached 14 mill vesting option. If the contract is much more than my initial estimate they s*** the bed.
  10. Madson hasn't started a game since 2006. And he was never an effective starter. He's being marketed as a late-inning reliever because that's what he is.
  11. For less years and money than Papelbon. Color me surprised if Madson gets 3/33.
  12. From MLBTR:
  13. Peripherals are okay, and aside for a very high BABIP there's nothing to indicate he's in regression mode, including his FB velocity, which was almost 96 MPH last year. Age is a factor, but there's really not a lot regarding LHP options in the market.
  14. Should be sooner rather than later. Fenway has a very negative impact on Crawford's power output, and the easiest way to remedy that is to drive the ball the other way with authority. Need to close that stance up a bit if he wants to accomplish that.
  15. RE: Pumpsie: I'm not arguing to the contrary. I'm just pointing out the Crawford situation specifically because it seems more like an inevitable change (whether or not Valentine was chosen as the manager) than a possibility. And the fact that he had mentioned it before doesn't change the fact that it's a sentiment echoed by several scouts. Crawford really needs to address it, and Valentine will probably be part of the effort.
  16. I think he meant the actual owner of the forum, because he's just another regular poster.
  17. ^ Never had i seen such a beautiful romantic relationship.
  18. Get rid of the contract. Besides, even if he's 35, his peripherals and velocity are strong. At 5.5 million, he'd be a great value and allow enough money for another reliever with closing experience to be signed.
