  1. I didn't know a walk was the primary way to get on base. Way to screw up the simple concept you speak of. Dude's a product of his ballpark and there's no evidence to the contrary. I'll take Beckett and the beer.
  2. Who is a homerrific White Sox fan? Surprised much. Stats convenient for your argument. Look at the whole body of work, and don't omit stats that don't go in his favor, like K's and ERA +. Also, the sample size issue, which you don't even touch, because seriously. Baseball Reference. BB/9 isn't the be-all, end-all. You need to induce weak contact and miss bats. You know who has a pristine BB/9? Carlos Silva. Fister is a flyball pitcher in a spacious stadium that covers his flaws. He doesn't K hitters, and doesn't have high-end stuff. He has great control, sure, but let's not kid ourselves here. You're welcome to keep deluding yourself by cherry picking stats and ignoring context though. That's because they don't. The Angels, Tigers and Yankees....well, that's another deal.
  3. Who has said he's not a capable pitcher? I am countering your point that he's statistically better than the entire Sox pitching staff. If you consider the pitching environment and don't cherry pick stats, Beckett and Lester are better pitchers. Sorry if you don't want to admit it. Also, his ERA is a full run higher on the road (4.08 to 3.04), another example of cherry picking stats. And a sample size of 450 innings is still fairly small. I agree that he's a capable number two, but the rest of your point is moot. Also, the guy who made the comment about Detroit is a White Sox fa, (as evidenced by his monicker which has WHITE SOX on it). You may have a better point against his rotation.
  4. Delicious, delicious irony.
  5. ....in 452 IP, most of them pitched in Safeco Park. HOLY SAMPLE SIZE, BATMAN! For your enlightenment, Fister's ERA+ (which accounts for park factors) is lower than Jon Lester's, Clay Buccholz' and Josh Beckett's.
  6. There is no strong supporting evidence anywhere that JH is gearing up to sell the club. A lot of his seeming "disinterest" stems from him trying to take his nose out of team business and handing over the reins to LL. JH simply signs the check. It takes a massive logical leap to come to the conclusion that because Henry has tried to lower his profile after last year's disaster he has no interest in the team. Lots of unsupported conclusions and baseless conjecture floating around here.
  7. When I head up to Boston to take my mother to a game or two, she usually pays for the hotel and we stay at the Marriott Long Wharf which is very pricey but also my favorite hotel, anywhere. But, more often than not when I go with my girlfriend and I have to pay for everything, we stay at the Doubletree Boston Bayside. It's near the Red Line T which is a little bit away from everything you'll want to be checking out, but it's pretty cheap and very nice, and has a gigantic free parking lot. I have always been very pleased there.
  8. Or 3-6 with that payroll.
  9. No....it really doesn't.
  10. This team is painful to watch right now.
  11. I remember calling balls and strikes on a softball game where every one of the home team's players would make signs of disgust every time they got a strike called on them. It could be right down broadway and they'd still groan. About the foul tips, have you ever taken a hard one right off the knee? Those hurt like a bitch no matter what type of gear you're wearing.
  12. Funny. iortiz used to say i didn't let others "express themselves" when i disagreed with his ideas. Yet he's against letting me "express myself" by attacking me, saying i'm insulting people by using an expression that is not an insult.
  13. A strawman is not an insult. Find out what it is before you talk.
  14. Same when someone creates your points for you. But nice talking to you.
  15. So, is Ortiz worth the money?
