  1. Romero has been really really bad this year.
  2. Read above. "Every report" has them attempting to trade for pitching, and turning down all offers for Lester/BP pieces.
  3. Last time Lucchino assured a big signing and trade we got Crawford and Gonzo. You really never know with him.
  4. One of the theories about why Salty is so bad with pitchers is that he's very tall and wide. Catchers with Salty's build supposedly do not give a very good target and give the impression of a larger strike zone to umpires.
  5. Stand pat. Then no matter the outcome of this season, sell, sell, sell in the offseason. Namely, i would sell: Aviles, Beckett, Salty.
  6. A pitcher is what they need. Halladay is not the answer. Father time is catching up to him, and he has severe shoulder issues. They don't (and won't) trade Lee after committing long term to Hamels. As for Greinke, he's a head case, and the Sox rotation is a collection of head cases, no need for another one. The Sox' options are extremely limited. At this point, the only two realistic options for the Red Sox are sell are stand pat. Personally, i would sell whatever i can and retool.
  7. It's not only the average man, it's everything. Average, slugging, OBP, stolen bases. What made Hanley so good was his standing as a legitimate five-tool threat. That overcame his always-lousy D at SS. Now his power may have somewhat come back at Fenway, but that doesn't mean getting him while getting into another albatross contract would have made sense. Also, just to drive the point home, Hanley's home/away numbers in 2011-12: 2011: Home/away OPS: .679/.730 2012: Home/away OPS: .882/.614 While last year he hit moderately better on the road than at home, he's hit very well at home this year, and now can't hit on the road. The problems are in his head, and those are the hardest to fix.
  8. Think about this: Do you think the Marlins wanted Crawford straight up for Hanley? They're trying to shed salary, not add. The Sox would have probably been stuck footing the bill for the underperforming Heath Bell, at which point, had this trade been made, everyone would have screamed to the heavens the incompetence of this FO. Also, i don't get the Hanley love, he was good in the past, but you're betting on an improvement. You're not expecting his usual production. And he's a known whiner and clubhouse cancer. Do we really need another one of those? Since 2011, Hanley has a .732 OPS with 24 Home Runs in 181 games and a pedestrian OBP to go along with a s***-ton of K's. Those numbers could be easily eclipsed by WMB right now. If you want to be pissed about something, be pissed about moves that make sense (pitching) and not moves that don't make sense (getting another hitter with an attitude problem and inflated contract).
  9. Hanley's sucking, and he can't pitch. What's the fascination with him?
  10. Salty.Needs.To.Go.
  11. Explain why? Trading prospects for Hanley and yet another inflated contract would have been the stupidest thing the Sox could have done. Hanley doesn't fix this team's main issue: Pitching. And even worse, it would have bloated the payroll even more. There needs to be some consistency in the thought process of what the Red Sox actually need to do, instead of a constant complain-fest about every non-move.
  12. I don't understand what is it exactly that people want. If they need to "sell" as many here have stated, why would you trade prospects for Hanley's inflated contract? It makes no sense.
  13. And the Valentine apologists continue their march.
  14. Salty needs to go.
  15. I won't be disappointed if they don't trade for him. He's made of glass.
  16. Man how times change. Just two years ago everybody would have been blowing a load at just the mere possibility of getting Hanley.
  17. Don't waste your time. He's "that" type of poster.
  18. I would steer clear of JJ. He's an injury waiting to happen. We kinda have enough of those.
  19. Ichiro has been one of the worst regulars in the Majors this year. That's no even debatable.
