  1. This. If Doubront pitched more IP/start, his general numbers would look a lot better.
  2. But here's my question: You initially talked about RH power, which the Sox have a bunch of prospects (highlighted by Bogaerts) with very good to great power projection from the right side. If you're talking 1B though, you'd be right, but that wasn't what your post said. And if that is what you're saying, then you'd be wrong. The Sox could use a couple righty power hitters, but nothing is as important as pitching. You can easily buy a RH power hitter on the market, but getting affordable quality pitching has become almost impossible.
  3. You want pitching? I can help you out. Let's talk trades.
  4. Why? He's supposed to be a very skilled catcher.
  5. Great pick.
  6. Varitek should get +2 WAR in 2004 for bitch-slapping A-Rod.
  7. You are indeed correct, his 2000 season is the one where he had 42 saves and had whooping 91 IP as a reliever.
  8. This whole discussion is based on the assumption that he will be a starter. That's a dumb question. Let's just agree that he's a pick based on projection and move on.
  9. Derek Lowe's 2002 and Flash Gordon's 1998 for RP slots.
  10. It is all semantics. However, this list is misleading. We're talking about SP who can sit low 90's and hit mid 90's right now. Half that list doesn't meet the criteria. Even mentioning Petitte is a joke.
  11. No, there really aren't.
  12. I still like Keith Foulke's 2004 for one of the RP slots.
  13. Ignoring the ridiculous idea that there are a lot of high school lefties that can touch the mid-90's..... there is also the fact that the kid is just a dynamite athlete.
  14. I couldn't disagree more, and Jacko's final sentence most likely hit the nail on the head. From what i've seen, the Red Sox are all about projectability when it comes to drafting pitching talent. Lefties with that kind of velocity and stuff don't grow on trees, and the upper minors are strong enough to allow the Sox to gamble on talent instead of drafting for need.
  15. Fred, do you follow the Red Sox minor league system? I'm going to assume you don't.
  16. Well apparently you pissed Gomes off enough to have a monster night, so maybe your "wit" does have some use.
  17. How the hell did you reach that conclusion from him signing an extension with the Mariners? Did it ever occur to you that maybe he thinks the Mariners will eventually contend? How do you know what he thinks? Are you a mind reader? He obviously would have gotten his money if he tested the market anyways. Seriously, think before you post.
  18. You never know
  19. I've read a lot on this guy actually. It's a cool story. He has a big chip on his shoulder because he wasn't very good at baseball but has improved to the point where he was projected as a top-100 pick in the draft. Sox tend to draft players with that kind of mentality. He has a bulldog attitude on the mound and is always all over hitters throwing strikes.
  20. It's not impossible. It would be hard, yes, but not impossible.
