  1. He's in the mix for a backup OF role. It's not the same situation as Roberts in the least, since he's expected to start. Please stop.
  2. That is incredibly short-sighted. And how can him being "overhyped" (which he isn't) bring down his game? He struggled for about a 10th of a season last year. So have many great players like Pedroia and Trout in their first cup of coffee at the MLB level. You're making absolutely no sense.
  3. I think his point is that money by itself is not enough. You need a strong farm system to withstand the grind of an entire season. Remember that even though the Sox went on their short contract binge last season, if it were not for the contributions of Carp (minor trade), Workman, Bogaerts, Iglesias (who helped tremendously then brought Peavy), Britton et al, the Sox don't win the WS. If a couple of important Yankee old timers get injured (which is very very likely), who replaces them? And if they need to acquire an impact player like Peavy at the deadline, who do they trade for him? Being able to absorb bad contracts doesn't give you the same mileage it used to.
  4. Which would be hilariously appropriate considering CC's actual weight.
  5. There's enough common sense in this post to supply TalkSox for about two months, considering the quality of posting from the resident Yankee fans and the people who doubt that BC's piss has magical ML- team building qualities.
  6. Are you talking about trading JBJ?
  7. Exactly. That's going rate for a decent backup OF.
  8. But remember, per SoxSport, they are making unlimited money off of YES network!
  9. Major League deal is kinda sketchy. "Potential" to make 6 million means nothing, since he won't even sniff that unless he produces. I don't see what the big deal is about the money.
  10. I am flabbergasted at the logical leaps of faith inherent to fred's thought process.
  11. The key is "based on plate appearances". If he makes those 6 mill it means he was healthy and productive. Don't see what's so insane about it.
  12. I'm more than ready for JBJ to be the everyday CF, because that would mean he's tearing it up. I think y'all mean you're not ready to hand him the keys without a backup plan, which sounds a lot more reasonable.
  13. I'll take a 2009 Baldelli season out of him as a backup with no complaints.
  14. I like Sizemore, but i think he'll be a Rocco Baldelli redux.
  15. Yeah but unlike Brian Roberts, we aren't actually counting on him.
  16. And neither do scouts really. I still remember reading with my grandpa (when i was just learning English as my second language mind you), the rave reviews on Hideki Irabu. Look at the reports, and you'll see that they're all over the place: Ace, #2, question mark, ticking time bomb are all used to describe Tanaka within the first page of a google search. We'll just have to wait and see.
  17. That's the point, we don't know. Scouts recommended the guy to a bunch of teams, but they also recommended Matsuzaka and Hideki Irabu, who i am sure you're familiar with. Oh, and Kei Igawa. Don't forget about him.
  18. How the hell do you know the smaller ball and different mound won't affect his splitter or repertoire in general? No one can say that for sure, not even scouts. That is nonsense.
  19. Jacko, a big part of your post is blatant homerism. You seem to have conveniently forgotten every truly negative factor concerning the Yankees rotation except for the fifth spot. "Formidable". Lol. You are just as bad if not worse as the people who exaggerate the Yankee rotation's weaknesses. Pot, meet kettle.
  20. He hasn't thrown a single MLB pitch with the different ball and mound height, mr. homerrific. I didn't see any of these "scouting reports" before he signed with the Yanks.
  21. McCann is the best offensive catcher in baseball? You either love hyperbole, or you're an idiot.
  22. It doesn't matter how much they pay a guy coming over from Japan. An adjustment period is to be expected by everyone, including the ownership that's paying him.
  23. Then he'll get bought out for the entirety of his salary. He has no reason to not demand he be paid in full if he's going to be bought out. The Yankees have zero leverage here.
  24. Mike Napoli fun fact now that we're on the subject of big swings: He hit two of the 20 longest HR's hit in MLB in 2013.
  25. You can mentally masturbate to this scenario all you want Jacko, but you are severely undervaluing A-Rod's stupidity here. His lawyers will advise him to wait it out until he can get all of his money (so they can make more money) or even worse, convince him to try and play so that they can, again, make more money.
