  1. Tyson Ross and Alfredo Simon are both terrible pitchers who had a good season based on home/away splits and luck respectively.
  2. .585 OPS against lefties. That's why he's a platoon player/ 4th OF.
  3. Such a beautiful romance. Good revenue stream for Viagra.
  4. Because you have the depth to not completely rely on the kids with or without Cespedes. Also, you're assuming they'll be able to acquire two pitchers from the FA market and forget about the clusterf*** of OF's the roster currently has. They need to clear some room one way or another. It's not a "rush to play the kids", it's a need to balance the roster.
  5. Because you can get a pitcher using Cespedes, who will be gone after 2015 either way, while giving the kids valuable AB's at the Major League level.
  6. That is very fair.
  7. You're rationalizing severely. Panda has declined offensively four years running. As fans we should care about the way they spend their money because when the budget tightens then we'll want them to make moves and when they scream "we're burdened by these dumb contracts" we, as fans, will complain.
  8. Pretty much.
  9. I think there's a disconnect between our definition of "consistency". The Sox FO never flat-out denied they'd ever make another high-profile move. They said they'd be extremely careful with their long-term financial investments. That makes sense. But then they go out and sign the two best bats in the market, who are meant to play the same position, and move one of them to the OF, and said player hasn't logged an inning in the OF since a winter league stint years ago.
  10. ....and stunt his development. That makes no sense. Let him play and manage accordingly. Also, as SK pointed out XB is not a failure at all. He's playing with the big boys at an age when most guys are just reaching AA. Context matters.
  11. The Panda move looks like a ticket-selling Lucchino move to me. I wouldn't doubt him being empowered once again regarding baseball operations after the disaster that was 2014.
  12. But if healthy, he's a 30-HR, 100-RBI bat. You use that to protect Ortiz.
  13. Simple: Sign Hanley to play 3B, sign a pitcher (Lester) , trade Cespedes+ for the other one (Iwakuma, Latos). They'd still have an extremely solid lineup and a deep bench to exploit platoon advantages. I just don't get where Panda fits in here.
  14. You're essentially wrong all the time about everything, but would never admit it. Pot, meet kettle.
  15. Hanley leading off and Betts on the bench? Betts is their best lead-off option and Hanley's the second-best hitter on the team.
  16. The funny thing is that Beltre's contract, which seemed like insanity at the time, has been an absolute bargain for the Rangers. They've gotten elite production out of the 3B position every year that Beltre has been there. You don't even need advanced stats to see that, but a quick look at his $/value tells you he's been worth significantly north of 100 million dollars. Quite simply, the Sox misjudged the situation, and so did most of us. Keeping Beltre and Youkilis at the corners and getting pitching instead of Crawdord would have probably resulted in a drastically different 2011.
  17. I'm actually a bit iffy on Cherington as well. Some here love to call me (and others) "polyanna" and stupid s*** like that, but the truth is, i call a spade a spade. Right now the spade is that Cherington is all over the place in my humble opinion. They had a set organizational philosophy which they s*** on after just one crappy year. Upgrades needed to be made, but not with a spending spree of this magnitude, and even less so if they do trade some of the better kids to get a pitcher. It makes sense from a business standpoint to a certain degree, but where's the organizational consistency?
  18. The order of factors doesn't affect the outcome. No point in whining about Lester unless they lose him to another team, at which point whining is actually an obligation. Also, why do people assume you can just put a gun to a guy's head and force him to sign? We don't know the specifics, but he may want to test the market to see what's out there, or he would have taken the Cubs' offer.
  19. Fair enough.
  20. Fred's posts are, as asual, highly ironic. Moving on from the controversy, JD, i find it highly unlikely that Panda fails his physical.
  21. Also, Lavaranway didn't suck because they "moved him between C and 1B", Lavarnway sucked because he was a subpar catcher who couldn't hit MLB pitching. Stop making s***** excuses when the players you like don't pan out. You can't blame the FO for everything people, and even more so if you're unwilling to give them credit when they make the correct moves.
  22. Not even the ignore option can save me from his constant whining. Goddamn.
  23. That is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. They "sent Kalish down to get injured?" What the f*** bro?
  24. Dojji, i'm sorry but i can't help myself. Every time you bring up that we should've kept Beltre a surge of anger rises from my feet all the way to the top of my head only rivaled by seeing the SUV of the ******* that consistently parks in my parking spot on a near-daily basis. Don't give us the "should have kept Beltre" speech after you hated so much on the guy.
  25. This is true, but he should still be able to improve his power numbers at Fenway, and unlike the NL West, all AL East parks are either launching pads (Fenway, Rogers, Yanks, Oriole) or neutral (Tampa). As Spudboy says, his transition to the AL is what worries me, but who knows?
