  1. An excellent 4th OF mind you, who can play exceptional defense all over the OF, and hammer lefties.
  2. Also, i'd rather overpay Lester than get into a bidding war with the Yankees who, if reports are to be believed, lust after Scherzer. Teixeira and Damon #neverforget
  3. Masterson is a good starter who dealt with injuries and bad luck last year. As far as mid-rotation starters go, he's about as sure a thing as you can get. Certainly more consistent and effective than Liriano et al, inability to consistently get lefties out notwithstanding.
  4. For the record, "inside sources" suggest the Yanks prefer Scherzer to Lester. That is a reason to be terrified.
  5. Betts is a better lead-off hitter than Victorino right now, because he can actually be in the lineup to hit first.
  6. Current update has the Sox brass meeting with Lester before the night is over. He's giving them one last chance at signing him.
  7. Yes they can, and they have confirmed as much with their affirmation that they would go over the salary cap if needed. This is the Boston Red Sox we're talking about, not the San Diego Padres.
  8. Sextuple post? Holy s***.
  9. They'd both end the contract around the same age-year, so i fail to see your logic here.
  10. Ellsbury Gardner Teixeira McCann Bitch-tits Beltran Prado Assorted suck at 2B Assorted suck at SS Neither Gardner nor Ellsbury have very noticeable platoon splits (although Ellsbury had a curious reverse-split last year and Gardner had a bad case of s***** luck against lefties). There's no way to stop the Yankee lineup from being over-reliant on bounceback seasons (and health) from older players, but that looks at least half-decent on paper.
  11. He seems to think Cespedes is the second coming of Hank Aaron. He isn't.
  12. After the market settles, it's unlikely Shields gets an obscene number of years, but he'll get an increased number of dollars. I can live with that.
  13. When has anything that Mazz writes not been a jumbled mess? But the point is that he's the main "sky is falling" proponent of he Boston media. The fact that he actually believes Lester isn't the be-all, end-all for the Sox offseason is a breath of fresh air.
  14. When Tony Mazz is telling you the sky is not falling and there are options other than Lester, you may want to reconsider your position Pitching, Not Lester, the priority for Red Sox
  15. No one said it would be "easy". But it's certainly possible. And even if they got Lester, they still need to trade from their OF surplus. The formula's there, sign and trade, the issue is putting a name on he who shall be signed and he who shall be traded for. It's also clearly not as difficult as you're making it out to be. There are available arms, and the Sox have money and surplus talent. Stop your slow and steady descent into the dark side.
  16. Beat me to it.
  17. If you think Cespedes is a better overall overall (or even power) hitter than Hanley Ramirez, we should meet up, because i have a bridge here i'd like to sell you.
  18. I like you.
  19. That just means he's the Yanks' main target and this is Mark Teixeira 2.0. I will not be surprised nor particularly distraught when he signs with the Yanks, unlike the Damon fiasco. Money talks.
  20. They can win the auction on whoever they want. The question is if they're willing to do it. This is the Boston Red Sox we're talking about, not the San Diego Padres.
  21. It's really that simple. Get the two top guys, and they can sort out the back end of the rotation just fine.
  22. They don't need to get four high-priced pitchers. That would be retarded. They need two high-caliber pitchers, and at least a spot to try and get something out of the massive stable of young pitchers they have in the minors. That would make zero sense.
  23. They shouldn't miss out on all of those pitchers (plus the guys who are in the trading block besides the guys you mentioned) if they do, it's on them, and they should STFU and not ask for anything from the fanbase.
  24. They don't need to jump to $240 million, and part of the way they'll get pitching either way is trading assets occupying the current payroll. Dude, i get your doom and gloom s***, but what are you smoking?
  25. Actually, they very much can. Saying otherwise is asinine. Now, the fact that it is very hard is a whole other deal.
