  1. Re Middlebrooks; I am convinced that part of his problem is his reported refusal to wear contact lenses that he was reportedly fitted for but has refused to wear. He clearly has trouble picking up the slider and other breaking balls. I never thought he was a particularly savvy ball player. I hear people talk about his supposed talent but what I see is a player who has failed to adjust to major league pitchers who are preying on his weakness and failure to recognize breaking balls low and away.
  2. Holt's BABIP wasn't insurmountably high. True he has come down but that has more to do with this being his rookie year and until yesterday and today he has started 93 games without a break Now I confess my bias against over reliance on certain sabermetric stats such as BABIP which are more retrospective than prospective. If you haven't already seen it I refer you to Jeff Wiser blog artcle on BABIP . "Each hitter has an individual BABIP but because these can fluctuate so wildly from season to season it can be hard to pin down until we have several seasons of data to work with."
  3. I agree with everything except " the FO will do whatever it has to to put the best team on the field for 2015. " I don't think they will do whatever it takes to put the best team on the field in 2015. For example they weren't willing to give Lester the contract offer that he wanted. Now they may change their mind. We'll see. But I have my doubts that they are going to be willing to give the number of years on deal to sign a front line starter.
  4. Holt has cajones and heart. Castillo is yet to see a pitch. WMB can't hit a breaking ball to save his life. Bogie who chokes in the clutch may find himself,or may be he won't. Quite frankly Holt is a better defender than either Bogie or WMB and has great baseball savy something neither Bogie nor WMB have. You can wait for WMB, Bogie JBJ and Castillo to find themselves if you wish but right now my money is on the "little engine that could" Brock Holt. If Cherrington is dumb enough to trade him (which he is) I hope a front line starter or a consistent power hitter is part of the mix.
  5. Unless there is a major acquisition, as of right now he is starting at either short or 3rd IMHO.
  6. One shouldn't base Holt's possible starting role next year solely on his post ASB stats. This is Holt's first year playing an extended season. He has started 93 consecutive games leading off. Given that workload and the fact that he he is a rookie it is normal and expected that he would have a drop off in his hitting stats. As of right now Holt will be starting next year for the Boston Red Sox.
  7. I agree. BTW I beginning to wonder whether Will Middlebrooks has a vision problem. He just isn't seeing the ball at all!
  8. I never said or thought Bradley is the reason for the current situation. I believe Bradley can be a valuable asset but they are destoying his confidence. He needs to go back down to Pawtucket have some success there and come back.
  9. Bradley is only hanging on because of his defense. Victorino's injury will buy him some time but they can't continue to carry his horrible hitting.
  10. The Gods of Baseball giveth and then taketh away
  11. Bogie has a reputation of being a slow starter who doesn't get hot until the warmer weather. That seems to be the case this year as well
  12. THis club needs more than Drew can deliver. Besides how long before he would be ready.
  13. This is painful. Whatever can go wrong does.
  14. Ron Darling is excellent. I'd like to think it is because he grew up outside of Worcester and graduated from St John's in Shrewsbury.
  15. You really can't appreciate just how good Don and Jerry are together until you listen to other tandems on a regular basis. For example, Gary Thorne and Jim Palmer are so bad that many O's fans I know turn off the sound to listen to the radio feed instead.
  16. For the record I am happy to see that JBJ is starting to figure it out at the plate. Hopefully with the warmer weather this team will start to get hot at the plate and put together a nice winning streak.
  17. I have to concede the point on Pedroia but Pedroia I submit was the exception. I haven't seen anything from Bradley that he has figured it out yet. I hope I am wrong. My point is that if he hasn't in another month they will send him down.
  18. User, You are free to put me on the ignore list as I have you
  19. Sizemore before was injured was among the best centerfielders in baseball. Yes he is not the player he was but he still is a very good defensive ballplayer. Bradley on the hand looks so bad at the plate I believe the Sox aren't helping his development by his continued failure to hit in the Major leagues.
  20. You haven't been paying attention to the Sox roster over the past two years. Nava would be brought up to play left or right, as he did last year. Sizemore would play n center that's why the Sox signed him as insurance. Major league clubs usually feel one can tell how a team will perform after fifty games. It is becoming obvious that Bradley hasn't shown that he can adjust to Major League pitching. The Sox will do the same thing to him that they did to WMB last year if he continues to fail at the plate the way he has to date, they will send him down and call up Nava, assuming he continues to hit in triple A. The sox need another bat if they wish to contend this year. They are probably looking now.
  21. No doubt this team looks bad at the plate. I know Bogie is reportedly a warm weather ballplayer so I do expect him to get bettter. WMB and Jackie Bradley are the head scratchers. I am beginning to wonder whether Bradley can hit ML pitching. The question is how much longer will Cherrington continue to go with him starting. If he hasn't begun to turn it around by the middle of June and Nava continues to do well in Pawtucket then I suspect they'll send him down.
  22. Buchholtz is a totally different pitcher with a lead. The bull pen's strongest performers are beginning to show the effects of the starters problems. They'll need the starters to do deep in games over the next few outings.
  23. Well you are going to. If I think that is the problem and I can back it up with my observed evidence I will post it. If you can refute it, do so. If you can't and you still don't like it that you can always put me on ignore.
  24. My wife made that very point during the game regarding the warmer weather. She commented that may be the sox's poor performance at the plate has much to do with the weather. As I recall when they played the O's here the weather wasn't that bad but got worse once they got home. Playing in the dome tonight the weather was perfect and the Sox bats came alive.
  25. First of all one can easily see from Buchholtz and Doubront's performances that they lose focus. One doesn't have to have an advanced degree in psychology to see that both get easily unnerved. I am glad to see that Bradley had a good night to night. I suppose I should be flattered that some you spend more time posting about me and others who may agree with me then baseball.
