  1. I don't think I have. I think Farrell took the season too lightly. Confidence is a major problem with Buchholtz, Doubront, Bradley and Nava. I think Bradley needs to go back down, he looks terrible at the plate. If he stays up I am concerned he'll lose more self confidence like Nava. CB goes on the DL to get whatever is bothering him worked out. There is something wrong and it may be mental. He doesn't feel healthy, at least that's what I infer from his published comments. Doubront needs go to the pen. I'd bring up Workman and let Capuano take CB's place in the rotation.
  2. Actually I wanted to see if the board has changed and I see that it hasn't sadly. Frankly I'd prefer to read about baseball rather than the soap opera you wish to perpetuate. Since you'd rather attack other posters then the Yankees, O's, Rays or Jays then there is nothing more to post. You go on ignore.
  3. Son I have been a Red Sox fan for more than sixty years. I have lived all over this planet and have proudly taken my Boston accent around the world. (Which is a real bear when speaking Spanish) I regularly post on another board where the posters talk baseball and are civil to one another. You are the intolerant one who seeks to drive dissenters from your midst. I didn't post here last year because of posters like you. If you don't like what I write just put me on ignore. That is what it was there for. I attacked no one it was I who was attacked. BTW just to show you much of a fan I am. My wife and I have watched virtually every inning of every Red Sox game since we returned from overseas and since they instituted the Baseball package on cable since we don't live in Boston.
  4. I don't like name calling. Ad hominem attacks are counter productive but there are those (more here than elsewhere) who tend to attack the poster rather than the post.
  5. One of the reasons I don't post here that often is because many (not all) are mostly interested in making personal attacks on other posters rather than offering their honest analysis of the game or the team. All honest observers admit that this team is playing very poorly. The outfield is awful. Their defense on the left side of the infield is mediocre at best. Two of their starters appear to have ADD. One who is a neurotic mess wasn't ready to start the season. The only consistency is out in the bull pen but if the starters don't perform better they will be fried by the ASB. This may well be a rough patch or it could be reflective of something far worse. Time will tell but there is no sense complaining about fans who are blunt in their criticisms of this team.
  6. Buchholtz is clearly high maintenance being fragile both physically and mentally. I believe he should be put on the DL. He never seems ready in the spring except for last year and then he only could go about half the season. Right now I'd prefer Workman or Capuano get the chance at the nbr 5 spot in the rotation. If Buchholtz wets the bed in his next start, I think the pressure will being on Ben to do something with him.
  7. No surprise about Roberts DFA. The only surprise is that there was no one in the organization that they could have brought up in his place. Nava hit over 300 last year and has proven versitility. Unlike Roberts, Nava has value on the open market if nothing else. He plays a respectable outfield and is a switch hitter. Once Victorino comes back I suspect they'll option Bradley before dumping Nava
  8. When Victorino returns the Sox will have to decide what to do about either Bradley, Carp or Nava. The way it looks now I wouldn't be surprised if they send Bradley back down, keeping Nava and Carp for the time being. Roberts will probably be around until Middlebrooks returns then they will DFA him.IMO
  9. Like I said, apart from Cano, etc........
  10. Apart from Cano, Kevin Youkilis is the best player on the field for the Yankees, Ichiro notwithstanding.
  11. Let's face it this ain't your father's New York Yankees
  12. Miller has always had control problems, too many moving parts,
  13. AS the season begins I am slightly more optimistic than I was in January. Nevertheless this is a 500 ballclub. That being said the division is wide open. 88 wins could take the division title. I don't see any team running away with the ALE with the possible exception of the Jays. The Jays have a tendency to start fast then fade by July. My heart says 85 wins. My head says 81.
  14. My guess is this is Bard's last best chance. I think he has only one option left. If he can't make it back and stick with the big club he'll be gone. What a shame!
  15. I agree. If this team doesn't take both early series from New York then it wouldn't portend well. The ALE is a crap shoot right now. The Yankees have one of the weakest starting lineups in the division. The Sox need to play well early or only the diehards who have been with this team during bad years will any interest in this team come June.
  16. AL East 1. Jays 2. Orioles 3. Rays 4. Yankees 5. Red Sox AL Central 1. Tigers 2. White Sox 3. Royals 4. Guardians 5. Twins AL West 1. Angels 2. Athletics 3. Rangers 4. Mariners 5. Astros NL East 1. Nationals 2. Braves 3. Phillies 4. Mets 5. Marlins NL Central 1. Reds 2. Cardinals 3. Pirates 4. Brewers 5. Cubs NL West 1. Giants 2. Dodgers 3. Diamondbacks 4. Rockies 5. Padres If Ortiz is unable to play more than 50 games and without a left handed power hitter in the lineup, the Sox aren't likely to break out of 5th place.
  17. With Napoli reportedly getting a one year deal, I think it is unlikely that salty will be traded prior to the start of the season. Although I think it is certainly highly possible that he could be trade bait before the trade deadline depending how the season unfolds and Lavarnway develops.
  18. I agree. While I expect this team to finish no better than 500, I am actually excited by the season. It is going to be a year of low expectations, So I hope they can exceed my expectations
  19. Can Jason Varitek be far behind?
  20. LL also commented on the Sox intent to pursue deep depth. He virtually ruled out (although not completely) any 7 year deals, My take is the Sox will overpay for short term deals for the likes of a Swisher, Napoli or a Cody Ross over pursuing a Hamilton.
  21. Lucchino was interviewed on the D& C radio show this AM. He refused to either confirm or deny that the Red Sox were in discussions with the Royals about a Lester deal.
  22. I cwertainly don't disagree with your analysis. One of the key factors which leads me to believe that Cherries is more a coordinator of baseball operations than a GM in the traditional mode are the published reports that JH wanted Bill James to play a larger role and reporting to ownership not to Cherrington. The second point is that JH and LL not only played the key roles in the A-Gon Beckett deal but also in the negotiations for Farrell as well. One wonders how much independence Cherrington has. If you recall when Cherrington was originally promoted to his current position those who knew him well in the media characterized him as very deliberate overly so. That characterization has certainly been proven accurate by events since Epstein's departure. One has to conclude that's why he was promoted. His job is to propose but the big boys (JH and LL) actually make the decisions.
  23. According to the Jim Bowden on MLB radio so has the Yankee clubhouse.
  24. You are certainly free to block anyone you wish but Fred is a baseball fan who is passionate in his opinions. One can disagree with his opinion and the way he presents them, but when it comes to baseball and talent his opinions have merit. Not that it is important but Fred has been a die hard Red Sox fan since I started discussing baseball with him on the old BDC site around 04.
