  1. If by faulty reasoning you mean irrational then I agree wholeheartedly.
  2. I think they wanted to get De Aza into the lineup.
  3. I don't totally disagree with your point of view. What I've seen out of Henry and his front office is that the underestimate human factors in their decision making.
  4. There is phenomenon known as culture shock. Having moved from country to country myself, I can attest to its effects. A lot of what may be perceived as confusion on the baseball field may simply be the effects of having experienced not only a dramatic shift in cultures but also in personal lifestyle. (The kid now has boodles of money) That's why he needs more time in the minors before one should judge whether this signing was worth the money.
  5. They called up Wright today. Why wasn't he brought up yesterday?
  6. Outstanding acquisitions. Aces all!
  7. Changing catchers may have some effect but it may be marginal. If Porcello keeps throwing sinkers which stay up in the zone or if he continues to lack command he'll continue to get clobbered. What is certain is that the Porcello deal and extension is looking like the worst move that BC has ever made. Ironically if Porcello can't turn it around he may be cashing a Red Sox pay check long after Cherrington is gone.
  8. Heidi Watney and Jenny Dell !
  9. OMG another triple by De Aza. 7-0 Sox.
  10. Hope Miley doesn't pull a Porcello and give it all back.
  11. Peter Abraham's article pretty much makes it clear that Porcello insists on throwing a change up too often and is getting clobbered. It isn't a case of the Red Sox trying to change him but rather Porcello throwing what he wants with negative results. Regarding U?, I stopped reading anything he posts and have had him on ignore for long time. He is just a troll who tries to provoke. He adds nothing of substance.
  12. When a sinkerball pitcher's sinker doesn't sink, he gives up a lot of home runs which is what we see with Porcello. In addition he has lost all command. I haven't seen or read anything that Boston suggested changes to Porcello's mechanics etc.
  13. In addition to giving up two home runs, Porcello hits a batter and throws a wild pitch. Outstanding inning!
  14. Not if it is declining as it is and the NESN ratings continue to crater as they are. If the customers believe you are delivering a second rate product at inflated prices which the Red Sox are doing, the market will punish you.
  15. In the business of MLB, it's all about the bottom line. The only measures that count are: fannies in the seats and where they are in the standings, in that order.
  16. I don't disagree but I can't see Henry admitting the Cherries has been such a disaster, at least not yet.
  17. If (and this is a very big if ) such a deal were to be done, how does John Henry rationalize to himself and Bosox fans keeping Cherrington. Doesn't Cherrington have to go as well to placate the fanbase. I just can't see such a housecleaning happening.
  18. I think we were talking about failure. According to a 2010 NESN report Bard was diagnosed with Blass syndrome in 2007. He overcame it to be a successful reliever. So it was a problem that was known to the Red Sox before the failed attempt to convert him back to a starter. This clearly refutes the claim that this was unforeseeable but shows it was in fact well known by the Cherrington.
  19. Excellent point. After all as GM he is responsible for hiring the personnel charged with executing his strategy. He hired Farrell. If Farrell can't manage Cherrington can't pass the buck. Here yet is another example of Cherrington's misjudgment of talent. Farrell is managing as poorly in Boston as he did in Toronto except for one year which was clearly an anomaly.
  20. I disagree. It was totally foreseeable. I recall former GM Jim Bowden saying it wasn't a good idea and then there is the much maligned Bobby Valentine. BV may have be a difficult personality but he does know his baseball and he was right about Bard. BTW the problem isn't going from starting to relieving it is the reverse that is the difficult transition and many can't make it at the major league level. And it wasn't like this was th first time Bard tried to convert to a starter and failed. "Drafted as a starting pitcher, Bard spent the 2007 season in the same role starting all 22 of his appearances in 2007 with the Greenville Drive and Lancaster Jethawks. Unfortunately for Bard, the results were disastrous: He posted a 7.05 ERA between the two levels, and walked 78 batters in 75⅓ innings pitched. Because of the poor success starting, at the end of the 2007 season Bard was moved into the bullpen to pitch as a reliever.[4] While pitching out of the bullpen in winter ball in Hawaii, Bard put up a 1.08 ERA in 16 appearances. While control was still an issue, there was still a large improvement."
  21. What are the results that Cherrington has achieved. The team sucks. That's the bottom line.
  22. Ben could have said no to Bard but he didn't. That was but one of Cherrington's bonehead moves since he became GM. The fact that this rotation is so bad if not the worst in baseball is totally on Cherrington.
  23. I don't disagree that Farrell and the coaches especially Chili Davis aren't performing well. Nevertheless Cherrington allegedly built this team. He put together one of the weakest if not the weakest pitching rotation in the major leagues. Previously he was one who allowed Daniel Bard to try and become a starter that is just one example of how he misjudges talent. If a GM is such a poor judge of baseball talent (that is his core function) he has no business being in that position.
  24. All of the above is true. Which is why public pressure and smart business will push ownership to make changes in the front office is this downward trend continues.
  25. I don't know nor neither do you, unless you have access to their balance sheet.
