  1. Probably both. I just don't think there is anyone who fits that description with the exception of deGrom. The Mets would certainly want more than merely Betts or Bogaerts. They probably would want Betts or Bogaerts and one other top notch young player. If it was reported correctly and Henry actually said it then he is off his meds.
  2. While I believe Kimmi, I can't believe someone like Henry could realistically believe that another club would give up a solid young starter who is a nbr 1 or even close to being a nbr 1. And who would that be, Keuchal deGrom?
  3. I also heard that he was netting more money because of the opportunity to do national network games. My understanding is the only down side is that he won't be near his children but the Padres offered to fly them out at regular intervals.
  4. To be perfectly clear, I am hard pressed to think of anyone he should keep. Ross is a maybe. Tazawa is toast. So I wouldn't be surprised to see all new faces from this year's pen.
  5. The pen has been in my view the single biggest problem on this club all year long. The early weaknesses in the rotation in the spring has only made a poor bullpen worse. Dumbrowski has to decide if anyone is salvageable for next year. I for one don't expect Koji to be reliable or a viable next year given his age and the nature of his injury. I see Dumbrowski having to get a closer, a setup guy as well as at least one starter.
  6. While the Sox will probably pick up Buchholtz's option, I wouldn't be surprised to see him not on the active roster by the ASB next year. I believe he'll be a likely candidate for TJ surgery sooner rather than later.
  7. Werner is the one I wish would leave. Notice no one has left NESN on good terms. They defamed Heidi Whatney and tried to do the same to Jenny Dell when there was no reason to do so.
  8. Buchholtz is never healthy that's the problem.
  9. On this we agree 100%
  10. Don and Jerry are terrible except when you are forced to listen to every other broadcaster. Don and Jerry are better than every other broadcast IMHO
  11. Yes it has been. This isn't so unexpected .
  12. The question of how much autonomy and how much real input Cherrington had or did not have will be determined by what happens to Ben next. Dombrowski was "fired" in Detroit and was immediately hired in Boston. If another team hires Cherrington as the chief of baseball operations or some similar position then it would be reasonable to say that his former rivals valued his expertise and want them to work for them. If Ben languishes without another club bidding for his services then that also will tell us what the other teams really think of Ben capabilities. In my experience one peers and competitors usually are the best judge of one's talent.
  13. In the broadest sense every one is "tradeable". While it is absurd because it won't happen but what GM wouldn't trade a Bradley for a Kershaw or a King Felix. As far as I am concerned, there isn't anyone on the Red Sox major or minor league rosters who isn't tradeable depending on the return.
  14. IMHO Lucchino's departure and Dombrowski departure from Detroit and eventual hiring in Boston wasn't coincidental. When the season went south in the spring Henry began searching for options, that's what smart businessmen do. Lucchino was burnt out in Boston. He decides to either move on to focus on Pawtucket or was pushed, it doesn't make a difference. He was leaving. Henry probably had some inkling that Dombrowski's time in Detroit was coming to an end. Given their past association in Miami it was the logical outcome that Dombrowski would eventually end up in Boston.
  15. 1ST base is absolutely the worst place to put Ramirez. Besides have you been watching how Travis Shaw is clobbering the ball. He needs the playing time to see if he is the real deal. Since the Sox are going nowhere and Ramirez may be a trade candidate it makes no sense to move him now if ever.
  16. Don and Jerry welcomed the move. Jerry said more than he had to in support of the change basically saying Cherrington didn't have the experience to handle the job. At least that's what I inferred from his comments.
  17. Great move. Can't say I am surprised given Henry past association with him.
  18. Enough of this talk of moving HR to 1st base already
  19. We also learned today that Ryan Cook sucks
  20. The lesson here is that bad pitching can be very costly. I am happy for JBJ may be he has finally arrived.
  21. Has anyone noticed how well Castillo has been playing of late. Looks like he has adjusted to life in the major leagues and has shaken off the cobwebs of his extended absence from competitive baseball. Travis Shaw may yet get us to forget Mike Napoli and Bradley may have finally figured it out. I find these very encouraging signs, now if only they can find some pitching.
  22. It doesn't take statistics to know the bullpen sucks. Tazawa is fried. It is likely that Koji's wrist injury requires a prudent FO to seriously look for a closer for 2016. In short there isn't much to salvage and keep from this year's bullpen. So in addition to at least two starters the club will need a totally revamped bullpen to be competitive in 2016.
  23. Bradley has the talent but his biggest problem still is between his ears.
  24. Great day for JBJ hope it is an omen for future. Jays sweep Yankees! Don't you just love it when the Yankees lose! Getting swept is just icing on the cake. So good So good!
  25. Watching Marte play 1st for the Tigers today gives you some idea of the damage Hanley could do there.
