  1. Yea I have had about all of the Iggy for Peavey "its a bad deal" talk I can take. If you come to terms with the fact that the Sox were always going to struggle with whether Iggy was a fit here or not, then it boils down to getting the best deal you can for him. There is just no way anybody would have thought you could get a front line pitcher for a guy that has yet to really prove himself as a ML SS. It is not like he has the potential to rip the cover off the ball. He has the potential to be a terrific defensive SS with a "tolerable" bat....thats it! I mean I love the kid and I could not muster up more enthusiasm than that for seeing Iggy in a Sox uni for a career. So not meaning to be malicious to Iggy, I was still happy to see him botch that play.
  2. A little more interest from the "beautiful people" of LA might actually make these games a bit more palatable. There is some polite applause every once and awhile but that is about it. Not sure anybody can take their eyes off their iphones long enough to know what might be happening in the game itself.
  3. Well they said before game 2 that Cabrera was looking better and moving better through the hips than he has in weeks. It sorta' showed although he really does not have to use his lower body that much to hit balls up in the zone. Balls down and away would really force him to use his lower body to generate any power. Balls up and out over the plate allow him to just wrist balls over the fence which he can do. But if he really is recovering, maybe he will be his usual dangerous self regardless of where the ball is thrown. Still looked like he was having trouble moving around the diamond.
  4. Anybody having trouble getting into this LA/StL game tonight. Usually post season baseball is such a draw for me that it does not matter who is playing where, I would prefer watching a baseball game to anything else. Maybe it is just because these last few Sox games have been so incredible that anything else seems like watching paint dry.
  5. I think WMB has had some of his best AB's since the post season started. Sure some have looked like typical worrisome WMB AB's but given how badly things had gone for the Sox hitters generally since they left Boston for Tampa you would think Will would have just been that much worse. In truth at least to me, he has had on average better AB's than one might have expected. So much so that given the circumstances, I cannot fault his post season performance to date. I know some would like to see XB inserted in the lineup almost any way possible but I just don't think Will deserves to be shown the pine for his performance so far.
  6. McCarver is irritating but I have to credit him for a fairly accurate description of what the Sox hitters were going through during the K-athon. I thought Buck was beyond irritating though as he seemed to be suggesting that this was a sort of "I told ya' so kinda' deal." Like the Sox were in the middle of getting blown out and they deserved to get blown out. Almost seemed like he was trying to set the stage for a hoped for super team WS of Detroit vs LA. Eventually I just wanted him to shut up.
  7. What a great great game. I am as happy about the Sox finally breaking through the K-athon as I am about the win itself. 30 K's out of a possible 48 outs at one point last night through 2 games for an average of 2 K's an inning. It becomes increasingly more difficult to bat going such a long stretch without even being able to make contact. For awhile, they were hardly even fouling balls off. In truth, the Tiger pitchers were one step ahead of the Sox batters the whole time and the vaunted Sox reputation for talking these things out during the game was not producing any sort of cohesive response to what they were facing at the plate. Verlander or no I think it likely that at least that might well be behind them. i don't know if they set some sort or record for two post season games but it definitely sounded like they were on the way to some sort or post season series record at the rate they were going.
  8. At the end when you think about it while the Sox left themselves less time than usual to stomp on the opponent's bullpen, they really again used their patented formula to win this. Granted they really did not pump the pitch count on Max but at the end of the day wrecked havoc on another sub par bullpen. I know there are a number of different opinions on the Tigers pen but I just think they run super hot or super cold. They are neither great nor terrible but can be great or terrible on any given night.
  9. Oh my God Oh my God oh my God Iggy makes a throwing error and Salty drives in the winning run with a hit....Almost like the baseball gods just did not like the way this was going.
  10. McCarver you ass Fielder did reach into the stands
  11. Should be offering some kuddos to Benoit too. As hot and cold as he has been can you believe he left that pitch in that location to David Ortiz????? No question Ortiz was counting on a first pitch FB and got it right where he likes it to boot. Great piece of hitting.
  12. Boy did Ortiz put a great swing on that...did not overswing....almost like he was a little frustrated with himself for ....well...over-swinging earlier and just said...f*** this....I am David Ortiz, not some piss ant September call up.
  13. Jeez I don't think Butterfield would have made it back to the dugout alive if he sent the runner with Ortiz on deck
  14. Come Vic it is not like you were not looking right at the thing. When was that ever going to touch the plate.
  15. Talking about ballooning from roids reminds of the first shots we saw of Remy's kid. Holy Smokes....did you see that guy?
  16. Gomes was a Farrell hunch I guess. Frankly Nava did make more sense. If you need a "spark" as Farrell rationalized before the game, what are you doing here anyway. Its the ALCS for crying out loud.
  17. They have to be feeling at least a little better about themselves having finally scored. Work has to have a shutdown inning. Whoops Work gone. Here comes Felix.
  18. Way to go Pedey. Scherzer finally gets one up in the zone
  19. Farrell has his binkys. Buch is one of them. Drew is another. That is why nobody was even up warming I think. One thing Farrell will need to learn if he wants to become a truly great manager is to forget about having Binkys. In the end it is just a vulnerability that a manager cannot afford to have.
  20. This may turn into the classic story of the good regular season team that is just not a good post season team yet. Simply no margin for error in these post season games against really good teams and that is not how we have played these games. OK so in the end the Tigers may turn out to be the better team but we are getting beaten like we don't belong on the same field with the Tigers at least not under the intense scrutiny and pressure of post season play. Maybe they will loosen up and just play. Can't do worse than they are doing.
  21. Throw a few more meatballs Buch......
  22. Buch up in the zone again as he was earlier in the game with typical results. I don't think a Tiger's pitcher has had anything over the belt line in two games.
  23. Very hard to get the ball out without hitting it perfect in this weather. But it just goes to show what a mess we are right now. We should without doubt be the better small ball team...but we can't even make contact. Then again, as I said earlier, they need to stop swinging out of their shoelaces for one thing. Some of them have...maybe it will be catching.
  24. Jeez Drew, another cookie missed. He has really had some of the best pitches to hit in two games and has done nothing with them.
  25. Buch has got better stuff than Jon had last night. That performance by Jon last night was pure guts.
