Red Sox hitters are 2-for-6 with an RBI and run scored. The rest of the AL hitters are 3-for-19 with nothing.

Joe Cronin also had a large part in the Red Sox being the last team to integrate. He was the GM of the team from 1947 (year the color barrier was broken) through 1958 and it was an all-white team throughout his tenure. He was replaced before the 1959 season and that's the year Pumpsie was called up.

Speaking of Lackey, I saw many of the Red Sox players at Remy's after the game on Friday. It was the night before Lackey's start and he was throwing back beers like a frat boy. Not the most encouraging thing to see, although he did have a rare good start the next day.

He's a groundball pitcher, his strikeout and hit rates really aren't all that relevant to his success. I don't really know about his secondary pitches to make a judgement on him one way or the other.

It sounds like nothing anyone says is going to change your mind so I won't bother. But personally in the bottom of the 9th when our lineup turns over I would rather have 2 .370 OBP hitters and the major league leader in RBI coming up to bat. And regardless of whether we hit Crawford 3rd or 6th, it's going to extend the lineup. Plus, Crawford's career .263/.309/.375 line against lefties would make the middle of our order vulnerable to opposing managers if Crawford was hitting there.

That's not what I said at all. Even if Crawford matches his career high OBP, a hitter like Pedroia with a .390+ OBP and 20 SB would be more productive at the top of the order than Crawford. And it's not just a matter of OBP, Pedroia also sees more pitches, hits more consistently against righties and lefties and breaks up two lefties in the order.

Crawford can cause the same kind of havoc at the bottom of the order as he has previously caused at the top of the order. That's not a very convincing arugment. Studies have shown time and time again the the most valuable hitters to put at the top of the order are the ones who get on base the most. Stolen bases are fun, but in reality they don't have nearly as much of an impact on scoring runs as getting on base does.

Yawkey was definitely racist. When asked about the lack of black ballplayers on his team, he blamed African Americans for being “clannish”. And when his manager Pinky Higgins stated "There'll be no niggers on this ball club as long as I have anything to say about it” not only did Yawkey not fire him but he eventually promoted him to GM.

I assume people want Crawford at the top of the order because of his speed. But we already have a 50+ SB guy and a 20+ stolen base guy at the top of the order who get on base more than 37% of the time. I want as many people as possible on base for Gonzalez, Youkilis and Ortiz to drive in. Putting Crawford in the one or two spot will mean less runners on base for them. Crawford's speed can be just as useful at the bottom of the order where his ability to get into scoring position will be more valuable in front of our singles hitters who are less apt to drive someone in from first.

How many people would be willing to give up something like Doubront and Tejeda for Beltran assuming we cover most or all of the remaining $6-8 million on his contract?

Don't complain if you go onto a Red Sox forum and post "THAAA YANKEEES WINNNN" and pictures of their 2009 World Championship rings and then get flack for it. You got exactly what you were asking for and you know it.

You have to be a Type A or Type B free agent who is offered arbitration and Beltran has a clause in his contract stating that the Mets can't offer him arbitration when his contract is up.

I would agree with that. I didn't even know that Ortiz won it the other year. It's about as exciting as watching batting practice before a game.

Garza would be a good bottom of the rotation starter and he's been pretty unlucky this year. He has the highest strikeout rate of his career and his FIP is 2.98. I think the Cubs might be asking quite a bit for him though. When they acquired him, they thought of him as a #2 starter.

The ideas that all it will take to acquire Beltran is paying the rest of his salary and that we're going to be the only serious trade partner for him are wishful thinking.
