  1. Alrighty, we're scoring first and getting decent pitching! Baby steps y'all
  2. Not what I meant. Only a HR here and the Bronx
  3. This is the first offseason I can remember in which it seems like nobody in the media is hyping up the Yankees. Should be interesting to see how it all plays out. Cole, Fried and Rodon make for a good top of the rotation, but losing Gil at least for the short-term is a huge loss. Their offense will definitely struggle. Nobody will be pitching to Judge anymore, although after he showed he was an automatic out in the playoffs, maybe pitchers around the league will try to get cute and occasionally throw him a meatball. The make up of this Yankees team reminds me a lot of the Rays teams of the late 2010s and early 2020s. Enough pitching to save the world, but meager offense. In the Rays case, it was always just young and unproven position players. The Yankees seem to have once again loaded up on past-their-prime injury prone players. Should end well. I think the Red Sox have a real shot to win the division. The Yankees certainly got worse, and I think the Orioles did too.
  4. Duran will make 8 clones of himself so he can play all 9 positions at once. That's how he'll solve it.
  5. Assuming both Buehler and Masa stay healthy, it's weird having a surplus of competent big league hitters and pitchers for once. I feel like we have a plethora of options when it comes to putting a lineup card together, and our starting pitching is intriguing for the first time in 7 years or so.
  6. Thanks for the info. I must have missed the transaction that brought us Zavala
  7. I think this is a really cool photo; thanks for sharing! I love looking back through time like this. Doesn't look anything like the modern Fenway
  8. Sorry, I only log in periodically during the winter, and don't bother reading through any posts more than a day old
  9. This next round of games will be interesting. All 8 teams have a legitimate chance of advancing. I could see all 4 of these games going either way. If I was a betting man, I wouldn't touch them with a 20 foot pole
  10. What are we doing at catcher? Wong is the only one in the entire organization with major league catching experience. I can't be the only one concerned about that
  11. What is a newspaper??? Lol I kid of course. I'm about to make all of you feel old, but most of you already know how young I am. I turned 26 in October. I was in kindergarten in the fall of 2004. I remember talking about some of the games in school, but not watching them. The first postseason run I remember watching was 2007, and the first season I really remember watching from start to finish was 2008. The funny thing is, I can't really recall any particular player or season making me fall in love with the Red Sox. I know I felt like a part of my childhood ended when Ortiz retired, but I never idolized him to the extent that I know some other kids my age must have. Unfortunately, I probably took his career for granted. I will always remember watching Game 2 of the 2013 ALCS, though. A year into living in Pittsburgh, it's been comforting seeing how my love for the Red Sox has still persisted. When I bought Pirates season tickets last winter, I was afraid my heart didn't have room for two teams. But then I fell in love with Rafaela and Duran. I really hope we keep both of them around for the foreseeable future while we build this thing into a contender again. I also experience quite the emotional and nostalgic high whenever I travel to see the Red Sox in neighboring cities. Last year, I got to go to Baltimore and Cincinnati. This year, I intend to go to Cleveland and Washington, and perhaps Baltimore again. I didn't miss those summer nights at Fenway as much as I thought I would, but that doesn't mean I don't yearn for the day when I can go back.
  12. With each day that goes by, I grow more and more frustrated that our biggest acquisition of the winter so far came via trade rather than free agency. I don't really want to lose Abreu and more good prospects for a relatively risky/injury prone starter, when we could get other options on the market for free. It just sucks that most of those great options on the market have already been taken due to our ownership team's ineptitude.
  13. I'm with you - it should work out just fine as long as Crochet lives up to the hype. People (not necessarily anybody here) are just dying to see Boston become the marquee free agent destination it once was.
  14. Yeah, losing Teel sucks. I really liked him too, especially since we lack catcher depth. But, the White Sox wanted Anthony, so the fact we talked them off that ledge and still got Crochet is a win in my book, as long as Crochet doesn't turn out to be a bust
  15. Takes "investing in the future" to another level
  16. He's better than a decent #3. Take it from a Pirates season ticket holder
  17. Maybe if it was Greek Anthony, I would do it. But, I don't know, there just something about those Romans...
  18. White Sox want Roman Anthony for Crochet so that's a hard pass
  19. I would personally put Alabama in over SMU, as well as Miami for that matter. Sure, they have 3 losses, but neither SMU or Miami have wins against currently ranked teams. Alabama beat Georgia, which is now incredibly valuable due to Georgia winning the SEC
  20. I have heard that the Pirates are very interested in a deal. Obviously, they have a plethora of young talent in the minors to give us. I would also love to see Casas dealt here for my own selfish reasons, assuming he must get dealt at all. Option #1 of course is staying in Boston
  21. Not if we get Soto to pitch too! For all that money, he better be ready to work 🤪
  22. That win by Arizona State today was impressive. Would love to see them get a bye to the quarterfinals and then make a run. As a huge college basketball/professional baseball fan, I love this new format. You could rewarded for winning your conference, and it sets up the opportunity for the hottest team to make a run to the championship. Best of both worlds!
  23. All I will say is that I'm not sure I want to live in a world where Mickey Gaspar is our backup catcher
  24. I have a weird feeling about this. If he wanted to stay with the Yankees all along, he would have signed by now. If he was going to take the highest offer no matter what, he would have signed with the Mets by now. My gut tells me he is coming to Boston. Of course, 24 hours from now, I will probably look like an idiot. But, Heyman's tweet about Boston or Toronto not being out of it sounds like foreshadowing to me. Heyman might know, and is saying that to get out in front of people being surprised when he doesn't go to either NY team
