  1. This pretty much says it all. The results of arbitration were understood by both parties going in. There should not be any unhappy parties.
  2. This is an interesting article on aging players by Joe Posnanski of Sports Illustrated. http://joeposnanski.si.com/2012/02/10/aging-with-chart/?sct=hp_t12_a1&eref=sihp
  3. I'm sure no one has forgotten Manny a couple of years ago. That said, I'm pretty sure Ortiz won't become another Manny. I think the Red Sox and their clubhouse will be under quite a bit of scrutiny in the coming year. I bet many undercurrents and problems will not be kept quiet as has happened in the past...at least we can hope.
  4. Yet, last season the Red Sox were acquiring Gonzalez, Crawford, Wheeler, et al. We felt very confident. When the Phillies signed Lee, and the two teams were picked by about everyone to be in the World Series. I doubt many were picking the Cardinals. The Rangers were losing their ace, and the Rays were written off by absolutely everyone. It is very hard to predict success based on off season acquisitions and loses.
  5. Not to change the subject, but did anyone see the latest Traderumors posting about Buchholz missing the entire 2012 season. Relax...it's Taylor Buchholz, but my heart stopped there for a second.
  6. I believe he'd rather work with Dave Duncan and have a great one year in a NL city before testing the market again. I have the feeling he will either pitch well this coming year or retire. Boston and the AL were going to be a tough places to have a good season.
  7. I was just going to post this same idea. He and Lohse (the Sox definitely don't want Lohse) both have no-trade contracts, but Westbrook might agree to a trade if he wants to avoid the bullpen.
  8. This. You type faster, User.
  9. Career numbers can be misleading. Theriot has offensively been trending downward. Scutaro has been trending upward. Look at the last three years. I have to run but will talk about this later if the topic is still going. Google Cardinal forums or articles on the guy. He did not play well there last season.
  10. Never really all that good,Theriot's offense has not been the same since he left Wrigley Field where he OPSed nearly 100 points higher at home. In the last three years he has OPSed .712, .633, and .662. Scutaro in that time has OPSed .789, .721, and .781. Defensively, Scutaro is a much better defender. The Cardinals tried Theriot at shortstop, but he was terrible. They didn't really start playing well as a team until they moved him out and put aging Furcal there. Theriot ranked at the bottom or near the bottom in every defensive metric last year for shortstops. Theriot is more Don Buddin than Marco Scutaro.
  11. Btw, has this been posted? Jose Canseco to the Red Sox? http://www.wlky.com/r/30285917/detail.html
  12. I disagree...and so do the Rockies. Why would they have taken on Scutaro's contract when they could have had Theriot for about a sixth the price? Theriot is without a team for a reason. He is not very good. He barely plays defense well enough to cover second base and his offense has been on the decline. Scutaro is a much better player than Theriot.
  13. If Jackson is looking for a one year to go back on the market in 2013, I am betting Boras is just using Boston to drive up Jackson's price tag. He certainly would want his client putting up numbers in the NL (see iortiz's post). Oswalt might be doing the same. The rotations in Texas and St. Louis seem pretty full, though.
  14. Oswalt certainly looks to be headed elsewhere. Maybe the market for Jackson will fall far enough to allow for a Ryan Madson type signing.
