Reason why you can not compare his numbers with Paps numbers in order to build an accurate case, or an accurate projection. First, he has to show and prove consistently and continuously that he can handle demanding loads of pressure. Somehow and at some key moments he couldn't handle the pressure. I'm convienced that this is not about mechanics. This is not about physical conditioning. His talent is out of doubt. As I've been saying, his real problem is in his mind, reason why I think he is not ready, not now; unless they help him and fix it with that brain scanner . If they are really considering to make the transition, they better start working with his mind (whatever it means)

What I've been saying is that we have a limited budget before go over the cap and a lot holes to fill, regardless seems that they are really considering resign Ortiz. If they resign him, they will eat likely the half of that budget (+-24 M) and still several holes to fill, so... Reason why IMO they will likely go over the cap, that's all. For the record, I'm not against in signinig low/mid-class players or pay large contracts or play with potential prospects or making trades or even pay for experienced players. I've been saying that each case/situation/player needs to be analyzed carefully in order to emit an opinion/judgement.

Agree. Reason why I think that each team has their own plan in order to move forward and not because Pap doesn't deserve or worth that contract. This is why I think they are a solid Organization. IMO and from and Outside-In view They seem to have a solid structure (governance, risk and compliance procedures), discipline, and talent at their top management, specially when they execute at FA.

I guess they didn't resign him because they already had options/strategy to fill that hole, sure plus saving that money; but it doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve that contract. Hell, he's asking -17% per year less than Mo after all, regardless he is 10 years younger or something, proved in this market, mature, with great career numbers, etc. The arguments that I've read on this regard is that this contract has a lot of risks based on other relievers records which btw are not comparable (quality, division, age, position, numbers, injury prone, years of service, etc.), and not based on his own track record and parameters (qualitative and quantitative). He is a 2.3 ERA career closer after all. A solid organization like the Philadelphia Phillies thinks that he worths that kind of contract, making some of us be a little bit more confident in our arguments and maybe, and just maybe make us reconsider that we are not that crazy after all.

IYO, Why did Philly give to Pap that kind of contract?, hell, they already had the right piece, didn't they?, and like some people around here say, considerable cheaper (30/3), right?. That takes me to the next question, IYO, How much money was Madson asking to Philly, that made 'em turn around so quick and sign Pap? IYO, How much is he asking in the neighborhood? Let's say that he is asking your 30/3; plus an option of +-10. (still, if this were the case, I wouldn't get it, why the hell wouldn't Philly take this deal, I would commence to think that he was asking something more substantial, maybe +-10 M more, I'm not sure...) If true^, Let's go to the scenarios... If after 3 Y, they don't make valid the option, what would be the sign? My guess, he would've shitted the bed. If true, you would be wasting your 30 M and not saving 20 M, otherwise, you would be giving him something around Pap's contract, considering the option and maybe one more year. If this were the case I would like to see Pap's numbers at that time. IMO Pap would be likely making better numbers, sure at an arguably inferior division. As a fan, sure, bring Madson, keep spending that way, why not. As the owner, I'm not sure this is a good idea. This wouldn't be consistent regarding on Paps departure.

If Boston had put the offer first, let's say something around 40/3 and an option for 15, another thing would have been. Sure, if he had had two equal offers at the same time, yes, other aspects beyond the money he would have considered. It is clear that Boston didn't want to pay him because they don't have enough budget to face this 2012 (clogged in the books and a lot of holes to fill) or they are thinking to move Bard to that spot or simply they have another strategy to face this 2012 offseason. BL they simply didn't want him, whatever the reason was. We'll see.
