  1. Well, we are arguing different things. I'm just saying that the current Cubs are very close to be a horrible team in order to face next season.
  2. Put it in whatever philosophy you want. Cubs short/mid-term-future is not encouraging at all. Of course thus far.
  3. Is this just me or the Cubs ain't going anywhere next season. Unless they sign Fielder, keep Garza and make a couple of extra moves, I do not see The Cubs solid.
  4. Bingo. Ortiz would have been an idiot if he hadn't accepted the arbitration. I don't see a bunch of teams paying that contract (15 M). I'm not against Ortiz or the money he wants. He will perform. This is about priorities. Our? Pitching, Pitching, pitching.
  5. If the money is show stopper this season, fine. If true, why in the hell sign Ortiz instead of bringing the SP (assuming we go like this, of course)?. Of course you won't likely be the best offense but at least you would've been more balanced and IMO with more chances to compete.
  6. Our #1 priority this offseason was the goddamn SP. Even a 6 year old could see that. Again, If we stay short (do not bring a solid SP) because Ortiz contract, Ben will be the "boob".
  7. ... and number of years of MLB service and SVs/year regardless the division and environment?... Anyway... As I said, take away the 2010 numbers (bad year IMO, "s*** happens") and his numbers are very impressive. Honestly, I see a healthy/2.5 ERA /30+ SV/+-65 IP Pap next 4 years in Philly, but only time will tell.
  8. I think you put it in better words than I, Fred. I think everybody in this board agrees with this.
  9. Maybe this is a matter of semantics what I've been reading here. Can we compete for the ring? Any team can. What are our odds in order to archive that?. Well, we have been seeded as a 7-10 overall team, thus far. Can we improve that seed? Yes, but there are only a few solid options remaining in the market. Do we have a talented team? Yes, but our current pitching staff is short and with a lot of question marks that could put our talented department (offense) in jeopardy again.
  10. On the other hand this is true. A no-go for an extra +-20 M investement could risk an already 180 M payroll.
  11. This is Theo's legacy. Some say this is LL's. Some say this is a mix. Either way, If I were JH I would be very careful where to put my millions again, You bet.
  12. Good point. But, who would likely fill the 3B after Youk's depart? Aviles? Regardless you already have a question mark in the RF and already a LH-lineup.
  13. I've been saying this since before the 2011 trade deadline. This is January 2012, and still waiting the SP.
  14. I've been saying that big market teams must win in the short/mid/long term. Yes, we haven't won a damn thing in 4 years. 5 years in a row would be very painful. As a700 said we only need a couple of solid extra moves in order to have a very competitive team. I already put my wish list. C'mon!, it is affordable. Yes Fred, they better change the mindset. For once and for all try to grab Garza and Madsen.
  15. Or maybe just the other way. Still I respect your opinion.
  16. He wouldn't have clogged our future as long as he puts the next 4 years something around Mo's numbers. IMO I see that happening. Yo have been saying that relievers don't worth those amounts of money, that it is too risky. He is not in that bunch. He is not a common reliever. I've been saying that he is not another "reliever". He is an elite closer. He should be treated different. He was treated different by Philly. It's a matter of opinion and the way we see the things. I think we can agree to disagree.
  17. Yes, 2013 FA class will be a better class, BUT... I see the main big fish making extensions to their contracts. The rest, will be guys like Garza or with lower level.
  18. Yup. 1. If the trade for Garza is reasonable viable, go for it regardless you have that Theo comp. 2. Sign Kuroda 3. Oswalt. But we can't go like this, I think we all agree.
