  1. You mean as a SP?
  2. I agree. They Should keep Aceves in the pen. What about Doubrount as #5?
  3. They are likely the #4 and #5 if nobody arrives.
  4. The last thing I heard was that the Nationals were a strong candidate to sign him.
  5. Welcome to TalkSox.
  6. mmmm nobody is pretending that, he is a great GM. IMO he is the best GM in all baseball in recent years (considering resources vs achievements).
  7. Well, as I said, We should evaluate Epstein's tenure after/before 2008. Before 2008 some have graded him from B to A. After 2008 some have graded him from F to C. The thing is that he had plenty access to all kind resources in all his tenure in Boston. Friedman didn't. Can Friedman perform in a big market team? My logic says yes. Can Theo perform in a small market team? I'm not sure if he can deliver results with a limited budget.
  8. Beyond baseball, Great Managers achieve extraordinary things (results) with ordinary things (limited resources). This is Andrew's Friedman case. They are 1-3 payrolls (but from the bottom) in all baseball and have succeeded in the last 5 years in arguably one of/or the toughest division in all baseball. They have owned us in the recent years. IMO They are not a fluke team anymore. In the short/mid future they shall be taken seriously. I heard that the Astros tried to hire him. I'm not sure how it ended. A700 and I said that he would have been an excellent choice for our team. Hopefully Ben shows great abilities as a GM. We'll see.
  9. I think that is a combination of drafting and development. Seems like that stockpile will never end.
  10. We should take a look at the Rays farm. I'm not sure how much Friedman has been involved in their farm (I guess a lot), If true and as I said, he could have been a great option as a GM in Boston.
  11. I got your point.
  12. Mmmmm... It depends on what kind of quality you want in your depth... If you already have a solid rotation and then you hire a guy like Saunders, He could initially take a depth position and then... who knows? he could take a spot in the rotation whether someone gets an injury or underperform. With him, your rotation would look like very similar. With Cook is a different story; he is a long shot. Last year our "pitching depth" was horrible. This year with all those signings, our depth is not encouraging again, regardless still, the #4 and #5 spots are a question mark. I think that it is the point of the discussion. IMO the depth should be build mostly with your farm rather than crappy pitchers. Doubrount and Wilson should be part of our pitching depth. The problem is that our pitching in the farm is not enough/ready.
  13. As you said, they have been a small market team trying to survive in the recent years. This offseason, they have showed a lot of signs of truly want to rebuild this team. Now, They are very serious in this regard. This rebuilding process just started. It is not like they have started 5 years ago. I'm not sure if they are going to be a contender team next season, but all the signs show that they want to make that big step. In the recent past? Nahhh.
  14. Ohhh I see. You're very kind VA. Thanks. Maybe the moneyball approach could be related in some way with this term.
  15. I like your sense of humor. You make this board funnier.
  16. Well, I've been saying that this our reality. Can we win the division with this? Yes, but will be very tough and will depend of a lot of "ifs".
  17. Well, I already rest my case E1. I do not want to go in circles. You have your opinion, sounds solid and logic and I respect it but I don't share some passages of your opinion. Agian, IMO that team is currently horrible. I don't like what I have seen this offseason in that team. IMO they could be more aggressive (like the Fish). IMO They are weaker. Is this part of their "strategy"? fine. I don't like it. Good luck to them. Said that, I think we can back to our team, the Red Sox.
  18. I tried to translate dumpster diving, but I haven't found out the meaning
