  1. Maybe it's his modest .466/.464/1.052 career slash line when pulling the ball that has be excited, but I sell the farm for Stanton.
  2. Barnes, Bogaerts, Bradley, and Cecchini for Stanton. And it's worth it. He's Manny Ramirez 2.0, with a better attitude.
  3. To be fair, though, Shaw could be a great fit. He's very much like Youkilis, high OBP, good pop (20-25 HR). Shaws 22 year old season between A+ and AA (.287/.397/.517) is similar to Youks 23 year old season between A+ and AA (.310/.436/.424), significantly more pop, but less OBP. But he is also a year younger.
  4. If the SP goes 77-50, this team will win 95-97 games. Winning 86 means the bullpen will go 9-26, which is outrageous given the talent in there. Even at 18-17, that's still a poor record given the strength of the pen. It's more likely that the pen would go 20-15 or 21-14. That would be 97-98 wins. But I think our SP is more likely to go 70-57 or 69-58, putting this team around. 87-90 wins.
  5. If he was willing to take a 1 year deal, the Sox would already have him.
  6. He's got potential to be an ace. Keith Law actually said in a recent interview w Speier that he is at worst a middle of the rotation pitcher, and if he can figure out his arm slot on his slider and just have an average slider, he is an ace. I don't understand how people on this board don't understand what we've got with De La Roaa
  7. Does the fact that both are top 100 prospects, DLR who would be top 50, speak volumes about the pitching talent overall?
  8. If this was the problem, then his xFIP would not be higher than his ERA. xFIP normalizes HR/FB rates. Hughes problem is that he's a fly ball pitcher. His HR/FB was 12.4%, which is not nearly as bad as you make it seem. League average HR/FB in 2012 was 11.8% for SP. The problem is that Hughes allowed 47.6% FB, compared to league average of 33.9%. He's a fly ball pitcher and that does not bode well at all, especially in the AL East.
  9. Salty/Gomez at 1B?!? Yuck. Gag me. I'd like to have an OBP at that position if I could.
  10. This is crazy. The Sox got De La Rosa and Webster, both of which project to be top of the rotation pitchers (DLR could be an ace, Webster a #2/#3).
  11. Holt hit .344/.406/.453/.859 w/16 SBs (in 29 attempts) in Double-A and Triple-A as a 24-yr-old in 2012 (126 games)
  12. Now the question is whether the Sox dish Bailey + a small piece for Porcello.
  13. Red Sox get Hanrahan and Brock Holt for Melancon, Pimental, Ivan De Jesus, and Jerry Sands.
  14. Not entirely. I see Sands as a bigger loss than Melancon, to be honest. But I don't see any of the players we're giving up as significant. And I see Hanrahan as a significant return.
  15. Gammons is reporting that the deal is done. Still haven't heard the rest of the names. Pimental & Sands from the Sox are what I've heard as certainties, with speculation on Melancon. Hanrahan from Pitt.
  16. DLR is going to be pumping up his innings in AAA and then will be the first up as a spot starter before he claims a slot in 2014. He's much more than an emergency starter
  17. Just to clarify what Pal said, the Sox must offer him a 'qualifying offer' to get a draft pick back if he leaves. A qualifying offer is the average of the top 125 salaries in the game. For 2012, that number was $13.3 million. In 2013, that number will only grow due to 2012 FA. If the Sox offer him a qualifying offer, he would likely accept it, as that would then tie a draft pick to him and he would be hard fought to find a 14mm (or whatever the number is) deal without a draft pick with his name. With one, it would be nearly impossible (see: Rafael Soriano)
  18. Jackso - does Hanrahan count as a significant move on our sig bet? What about Hanrahan and Jones? And if they trade for Porcello? Just trying to figure out what's significant.
  19. “@Jen_Royle: Adam LaRoche is holding out for 3 years from the Nats. Sides are "making progress," but if Boston swooped in and offered 3, he'd take it.” With the potential injury concerns from Napoli, I would say he's going to get very little C time. So now, if Napoli is strictly a 1B, would you rather have LaRoche or Napoli? I think Napoli would be more productive offensively, but that's giving up a lot defensively
  20. Jones would play more OF than 1B I would guess. And then fill in at 1B when Napoli is catching/needs a day off. He would be a great LH power bat that would slide very nicely into the 7 slot ahead of Lavarnway and Drew. Ells - Vic - Pedey - Ortiz - Napoli - WMB - Jones/Gomes - Lav/Ross - Drew would make a very strong lineup.
  21. True - 52.3% GB rate. With an infield of WMB - Drew - Pedroia, this team can eat up some GB's. Also, career .704 OPS against v RHH. I would be ok with this. On another side note, I wonder if Kubel can play 1B at all. He'd be a solid LHH addition, especially if he can play 1B.
  22. Report from ESPN regarding Porcellos possible trade - The Tigers still have a need in their bullpen, particularly at the back end, so if Porcello is going to be traded, it would make sense for GM Dave Dombrowski to target a high-leverage reliever who could close, in case Bruce Rondon -- a rookie with shaky control and no experience in the majors -- isn't able to handle the role. If the Sox do get Hanrahan, would it make sense to trade Bailey for Porcello? He K's are low (5.5/9 in 2012) but also walks very few too (2.2/9 in 12). His career xFIP is 4.10, and he posted a 3.89 xFIP in 2012. He's also only 23 years old, even though it seems like he's been around forever. Certainly this would be an interesting option.
  23. I forgot that the Pirates acquired Gaby Sanchez from the Marlins. I would say the Sox could include Kalish in the deal and get Jones in return. Pirates would get their OF and 1B covered w Kalish and Sands
  24. Well then. So much for your 'no FA is going to want to go to the Sox because they toy with the physicals' theory.
  25. I've heard multiple reports that Iggy isn't included in deal. Having said that, they have taken a while to release the last name in the deal, so it could be him. I don't think it's questionable medicals that are holding this up, only because of a tweet from Heyman that says: “@JonHeymanCBS: Word is, still some discussion about final player or 2 in hanrahan deal. Not expected to derail it, but may delay past xmas” So it sounds like they are still negotiating the end of the deal.
