  1. Lester + Ellsbury for Wil Myers?
  2. Actually, I'd like to see Jerry Sands get a shot at 1B/OF. Guy has some pretty damn good power.
  3. He doesn't. It's Hamilton or Cano.
  4. Not sure Victorino takes the Sox out of the Swisher running. Like you said, Cafardo posted that the Sox want a LH 1B who has flexibility. With Swisher, you have more flexibility than I've seen in a very long time. Swisher, Napoli, Lavarnway/Ross, Gomes, Kalish, and Victorino would all be moving parts that you could use to give the best matchup. And vs LHP, this team is going to be scary, scary good.
  5. I hit him 2, and put Pedroia in the 3 slot myself. This team doesn't have the depth right now that it used to. Pedroia is probably this teams best #3 hitter right now. That's not a bad thing, either.
  6. By WAR, Victorino was a top 20 player OVERALL in 2011. He was a top 8 OF in 2011. JHC, if players are regressing to a top 8 OF, give me that all day.
  7. What are you talking about?? He had his best career year in 2011! In terms of OPS and WAR
  8. Guess I should mention - That's better than Nick Swisher (11.9), too.
  9. From 2010-2012, Victorino had a 13.0 WAR. That's 11th best of ALL outfielders. That's ahead of: Matt Kemp, Carlos Gonzalez, Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, Jacoby Ellsbury, Shin Soo Choo, Hunter Pence, Jayson Werth, Andre Ethier. He's 0.1 point below a guy named Giancarlo Stanton. He's very underrated, admittedly by myself as well.
  10. Victorino had a career high .847 OPS in 2011, and a 5.9 WAR. That was good for 8th best in all of baseball for any outfielder. He had a down year because he posted a .278 BABIP. His BB rate and his K rate were right in line with his career norms. You gotta look at more than just his average and OPS. I'm not in love with this deal at $13mm/year by any means, but lets not get carried away. He can certainly bounce back to 2011 form pretty easily. And even in his down year, he still posted a 3.3 WAR. He's going to be around a 3.8 to 4.0 WAR player, which is a top 25 OF, and a top 8 or 9 RF (looking at 2011 and 2012)
  11. I'll tell you what I like about these moves so far. Cherrington is just going out and getting a bunch of highly talented guys. He's building a team. Not a bunch of overpaid assclowns who are arrogant. He's getting a bunch of guys who will mesh and get along. It's like the 2012 A's, except with more talent.
  12. I'm actually surprised it's taken this long for it to get out that they're interested in Escobar. With guys like Pedroia, Napoli, Victorino, Ross, and Ortiz, all guys who are leaders, who are great clubhouse guys, and who are guys who will call you out, it seems like they can afford to take a risk on Escobar, a guy who is pretty talented (despite his down year in 2012), but just has the clubhouse issues. He's certainly a guy who can hit you .280/.355/415, especially with some boosted offense at Fenway Park (career .320/.347/.426 hitter at Fenway over 100 PA). If the Sox can get him for fairly cheap, I'd pull the trigger on that.
  13. Precisely. In 2010, I was convinced that after Theo refused to announce Gonzo's extension until after the season started, that he was going big after Carl Crawford, even though all reporters were saying the Sox were out on him, I kept saying they're going after him, that's why they're delaying Gonzo's deal, so that it doesn't hit the lux tax for 2011. This year, I'm convinced that they're going to get Hamilton on a 5 year deal worth 110-125mm.
  14. Red Sox are among 4-5 potential suitors for Hamilton, according to Rob Bradford. He says... I think it's very interesting that a source suggests that teams are waiting to see if anyone will even give him 4 years, much less 7. I think the Sox should swoop in and offer him 5 years/$110mm and see if he bites.
  15. This stuff changes every single hour it seems like. I remember when they were in on Crawford and everyone said "Its the Angels. It's the Angels. The Red Sox are out"
  16. They want a LHH. THey are too RH heavy right now as is.
  17. Swisher can't play CF, and they'll want more than 10 HR pop out of RF.
  18. Could well be. Who knows. Maybe it'll help him get back on track. He's obviously had success w him in the past, so finding that comfort level may be very beneficial. Those could be the 30 games he catches.
  19. I kind of can't believe nobody has mentioned this. John Lackey has thrown to Mike Napoli for 399.1 IP, and has a career 3.63 ERA with Napoli as his catcher. EDIT: In those 399.1 IP, opponents have a .693 OPS against Lackey, too.
  20. I should have clarified. There are 2 comments that make me think the Sox are going to sign Hamilton. 1. Lucchino said he wanted a guy who can play RF and CF. 2. Cherrington said they are RH heavy and would like to balance the lineup. Both perfectly describe Hamilton. Damn, this lineup would be disgusting with Hamilton and Napoli.
  21. Cherrington said that the Sox are a bit righty heavy right now, and they are looking to balance the lineup. *cough, Hamilton, cough*
  22. Just look at his splits, and you'll decide quickly. Home: .298/.356/.565/.921 Away: .232/.294/.390/.684 He is a very LF dependent swinger. Not a fit at all for Yankee Stadium. It would completely eat him up. SSS Alert: He hit .156/.152/.188 at Yankee Stadium in 2012 over 8 games, 33 PA.
  23. I do think the Sox make a major move before long. Whether that means somehow trading for Giancarlo Stanton, or Tulowitzki, or signing Josh Hamilton, I think they're still going to get some thunder in that lineup. I'm still holding out hope (albeit unrealistic hope) that the Sox shock the world and trade for Stanton.
  24. I actually agree that this is the direction they're taking. Rotation of Lester - Buch - Haren - Floyd - Lackey Lineup of Ells - Pedey - Hamilton - Ortiz - Napoli - WMB - Lav/Ross - Gomes/Kalish - Iggy Certainly a contender. I do also think that they will make a play for Brian Wilson or Rafael Soriano. I think they're tired of watching leads explode in the late innings.
  25. Good. That's still $124.5mm for 5 players. That's still 64.5mm left for the remaining 35 players on your 40 man roster. Jeter has an $8mm player option. That puts it at $132.5mm, and now you have $56.5mm for 34 players. Oh. And you also don't have Pettitte, Kuroda, or Hughes. So....CC + Nova. That's your rotation. Oh. And lets not forget the 8 arbitration eligible players. That's about $25mm there. So now you have $31.5mm to pay 26 players. And you need 3 SP. Not sure if you've noticed, but SP is kind of going at a premium, and outside of Phelps (who is not a #3, and oh by the way, Nova is certainly not a #2), you have nobody internally. So please, explain to me how the Yankees would make this work? You going to bank on being able to deal ARod? Please. Nobody is taking that geriatric. Or Tex. Or are you just going to watch Cano walk?
