  1. and my point is that he would have sucked whether his fastball was 89 mph or 90 mph as should have been predicted
  2. burnett's average fastball velocity 2007 - 95.9 mph (age 30) 2008 - 94.4 mph (age 31) 2009 - 94.2 mph (age 32) 2010 - 93.1 mph (age 33)
  3. like night and day in his 3 years with the jays he was 5-0 with a 2.59 era against us. since coming to the yankees he's gone 0-3 with a 9.39 era against us
  4. aj burnett is my favorite red sox pitcher
  5. the stats back you up justify it however you want but his 5.32 era, 1.39 whip, 157.1 ip and 121 strikeouts do the opposite of backing you up. they make you dead wrong. i can't believe you're still trying to argue that trading for vazquez looked like a good move
  6. i twins/reds world series would be fun. selig would never allow it though, if you know what i mean
  7. funny they put drew in there considering his production has been minor league caliber this year
  8. bourne never went to arbtration so that's probably not the best comparrison
  9. if it helps you sleep better at night, keep believing you would have been right if only he had a 90 mph fastball instead of a 89 mph fastball. god forbid you admit that you flat out misjudged the guy rather than trying to blame a freakish loss in a velocity or some undisclosed injury as the real reasons he continued to suck in the american league you're worse than josh beckett trying to explain why he had a poor performance after a game
  10. we've had pretty good results health wise from other pitchers that have gone through a similar program. it will be good for him longterm and may even help to add some more velocity to his fastball
  11. anyone who thinks his poor results are due to him throwing an 89 mph fastball instead of a 90 mph fastball is fooling themselves. and based on his trend of decreasing velocity and his age, it should have been expected that he'd sit around 90 mph on his fastball i think many yankees fans were excited about how well he did in the national league east and his war values. i heard many even make the claim that he was an ace. but it just goes to show you how different the two leagues are and value stats like war, fip, etc. can sometimes be quite innacurate in evaluating the abilities of players. sometimes you just have to use common sense - if he couldn't provide league average innings in the american league in his prime why would anyone expect him to provide league average innings at age 34 when his velocity was 91 mph and decreasing
  12. here are his average fastball velocities 2007 - 92.5 mph (age 31) 2008 - 91.9 mph (age 32) 2009 - 91.2 mph (age 33) 2010 - 89 mph (age 34) nothing sudden or out of the ordinary about that. it's pretty typical for a pitcher to lose a few mph off their fastball as they go into their mid-30's. his velocity charts show that his fastball consistently sat below 90 mph this year with the exception of one start and one appearance as a reliever
  13. yankees228 is different. we actually like him
  14. the red sox and yankees playing in october! ...
  15. it's not as if his velocity suddenly fell off out of nowhere. we're talking about a 34 year old whose seen a decrease in velocity for the 3rd straight year. his previous struggles in the american league (4.50+ era) coupled with his high home run rates (1.2 hr per 9 ip) should have been major red flags as well for a pitcher coming to the al east to pitch in yankee stadium not many reasonable fans thought he'd be much more than a low to average quality innings eater at the back of the rotaiton
  16. beckett on hims performance last night: “Made some good pitches when I needed to, and didn’t make good pitches in the seventh inning. There’s the difference in the game right there." for just once couldn't he say, "i sucked, i'm sorry"? it's not like he had a bad day at the office or a bad day in the kitchen at a restaurant. he's had a bad year in front of millions of fans
  17. what a surprise, the resident yankee knob slobber was wrong again
  18. theo should be fired for putting together one of the worst offenses in baseball and expecting us to win with pitching and defense. maybe if we had resigned bay and stuck with lowell at third base we would have done better than a team ops of .792
  19. according to olney the red sox and angels both have a lot of interest in crawford sounds good to me. he's a better overall player than werth
  20. theo should have known half the team was going to go on the dl. they pay him to predict stuff like that. dan duquette never would have let this happen i agree, getting rid of theo epstein is our number one priority. he's clearly the reason we haven't won the world series the last 3 years
