It was an encouraging start not just because of the results, but the fact that he didn't walk anyone, was economical and used his fastball more which is something John Farrell has been trying to get him to do since 2007.

He was intentionally walked 6 times last year. Makes sense when you consider that he was often hitting in front of guys like Nick Green, and sometimes even the pitcher in interleague games.

Did anyone ever hear about the attempted robbing of Lincoln's dead body? It's a pretty interesting story. His actual body was taken out of his sarcophagus and buried, unmarked in the basement of his sepulcher for years, fearing someone else might try to steal it.

Good AB by Scutaro. I like him a lot more than I thought I would. His defense is pretty average but he grinds out at bats.

I have a new pack of sunflower seeds ready and I'll consider this a successful Daisuke start if I have any of them left by the 6th inning.

I don't understand why all the pitchers don't bitch slap baserunners in spring training and roll the ball to first base.

That's why it's important to have a decent depth beyond the 5th starter. This particular Beckett injury doesn't sound very serious but in a typical year, anywhere from 15-30 starts are made by 6th, 7th and 8th starters. Last year, we had 11 different guys make starts for us and of those 11, Lester Beckett and Buchholz were the only ones better than league average.

Matsuzaka has had some success against Toronto in his career - 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Hopefully he can turn things around.

When has Boras ever actually gotten what he requested? The Yankees perhaps should have waited for Damon's price to come down and signed him to a one year deal. I'm not judging players by just a month. Even if Granderson had hit .300/.350/.500 in April and was on the DL for the next month, the Yankees would have been better off with Damon. Every team makes mistakes in free agency. Look at the Red Sox and Teixeira.
