  1. It's our 6th starter up against the other team's ace. Only being behind 1-0 in the 6th isn't that bad.
  2. If you're gonna get hit, that's the place to do it. On the back side right where your batting gloves are in your pocket.
  3. Or you could, you know get ahead 1-0 then swing and 3 straight balls and strike out. Beltre has plenty of things to offer defensively and offensively but working a count isn't one of them.
  4. Alright, come on guys. We need to at least work the pitch count this inning and get closer to the Jays bullpen.
  5. I'm not pretending I knew about the guy. He had impressive stats so I looked him up.
  6. He has more than Johan Santana, CC Sabathia or Roy Halladay
  7. NESN just showed a graphic listing the active leaders in innings pitched. Moyer was first, Wakefield was second but I was surprised to see that Pettitte was third and Vazquez was fifth. There's your useless bit of trivia for the day.
  8. And Van Every strikes out looking at a ball 6 inches off the plate.
  9. The battle for third place at Fenway Park! This is exciting
  10. He's a pitcher out of college facing mostly high school guys, isn't he? It's not like I said he sucks, I just pointed out a fact. Deep breaths...
  11. Drew's called 3rd strike was a ball but I'm not sure the Sox should have sent Youkilis. Wells caught that pop up in very shallow center. It would have been very close and as a rule you don't make the third out of the inning on the basepaths.
  12. 5 game hitting streak for Ortiz
  13. We'll see how he does against hitters his own age.
  14. Why don't we let him have a few more starts before deciding what his season will look like. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets lit up his next start against the Yankees. That said, if he features his fastball more and limits the walks like he did last night, he could have his most effective year yet as a starter.
  15. This is going to be a tough one. Marcum's actually a very good pitcher when he's healthy and he's had success against us in the past.
  16. Like it or not, wins all count the same.
  17. Some Red Sox prospects have been making waves lately. Overall, here are their numbers. Lars Anderson - .294/.455/.500 in 34 AAA at bats after hitting .355/.408/.677 in 62 at bats at AA Jose Iglesias - .323/.365/.448 in 84 AA at bats (he drove in 5 RBI today on 3 hits) Will Middlebrooks - .340/.419/.544 in 103 advanced A at bats Oscar Tejeda - .328/.344/.552 in 116 advanced A at bats Robert Coello - 2.70 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 24 strikeouts in 20 innings at AA
  18. The Red Sox are in good shape. We're a top offensive team now that we've replaced Green with Scutaro and Varitek every day with Martinez. And we'll be a top pitching and defensive team once stalwarts like Beckett, Lackey and Beltre come around. And we've been without 2 of our regular players most of the year.
  19. Varitek is now hitting .342/.419/.868 (1.287 OPS) on the season. The first thing I check when a player gets off to such a hot start is their BABIP. But Varitek's BABIP is the same as his career BABIP. The only part of his production that's been lucky is his home run per fly ball ratio. I don't think it takes someone who knows stats to realize he's not going to slug .868 the rest of the year though. He's always been someone who hits very well when rested, hits very well against lefties and hits very well at Fenway. So it stands to reason that by giving him normal rest and starting him in spots that maximize his offensive potential, the Red Sox should get some solid offense out of him.
  20. Alright, I'm gonna grab a few beers and root against the Rays with some Yankees fans. Have a great night everyone!
  21. Beltre got lucky.
  22. Wow, what a great play.
  23. Another opposite field hit for Drew. If he keeps it up they'll have to take the shift off.
