  1. I think people tend to make too much of a big deal out of the schedule. When a team's playing well, they can beat anyone, when they're playing badly they can be beaten by anyone. To me, it's more about whether the opposing team is hot or cold at the time than whether or not they're projected to be competitive, especially this early in the season.
  2. I can't believe people are upset that we didn't beat the other team by enough runs considering: 1. It's April. 2. Youkilis, Martinez and Drew aren't hitting yet. 3. Buchholz is the only member of our rotation without an ERA under 5. 4. It's April.
  3. I thought Vazquez would be bad, given his previous work in the American League, but I didn't think he would be this bad. He'll probably figure things out and be the below league average innings eater that he usually is against American League hitters.
  4. I have to mention, it's another disappointing defensive performance from Scutaro. If he didn't boot a double play ball, it would have been an easy win.
  5. OK, fly ball percentage it is then. He had a higher fly ball percentage last year, but he also had a much higher HR rate.
  6. Hasn't he had higher fastball percentages in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 than he has this year so far?
  7. 2009 is the only year of his career in which he didn't get more ground outs than air outs and even then, it was by a few percentage points. 2003-2008 he got about 1.5 ground outs for every air out he got and this year he's gotten 1.44 ground outs for every air out he's gotten.
  8. He really wasn't that bad. He gave up his only earned run on a good pitch up and out of the zone and it was encouraging to see him throw so many splitters effectively.
  9. I agree that allowing 9 stolen bases every game is an issue. But even Victor Martinez isn't that bad of a catcher that he'll allow 9 stolen bases on a regular basis and the Red Sox will likely address the issue via a trade and move V-Mart to DH.
  10. Pettitte's a ground ball pitcher, I don't see why the outfield defense would be more relevant than the infield defense.
  11. Gotta love it when Yankees fans get this bent out of shape over the Red Sox winning.
  12. The defense this year from the Yankees really doesn't look that much better. Gardner's a huge upgrade over Damon, but Jeter looks like his old self out there so far this year. He's really struggled to make plays to his left.
  13. I thought the same thing today when I saw his pitching line. There's something to be said about a player leaving it all out on the field in the last year of their career. But to be honest, the chances of Petttite holding up over a full season at his age, throwing 110+ pitches his entire career aren't very good.
  14. It was only a matter of time. In 8+ seasons, he's stayed healthy once and even then he didn't play 150 games. He's a great player when he's healthy but he never stays healthy. That's the story of his career. Ramiro Pena will likely see a lot of playing team this year.
  15. Scioscia's been around a while and he's not afraid to speak his mind. If he thinks it was a clean play, it was a clean play. He's forgotten more about baseball than we'll ever know.
  16. It's ironic how the Yankees have gone from a shut down bullpen to a questionable bullpen with Park on the DL and Joba struggling and how the Red Sox bullpen has gone from a question mark to one of the most solid bullpens in baseball - they're now third in AL ERA. But then again, only a fool judges a team's performance by their early April showing.
  17. Yeah, I highly doubt Teixeira intentionally injured the catcher, especially because it was the catcher's fault that he was out of position when trying to block the plate that lead to the freak injury. It was a bang-bang play and a tough, split second decision for Teixeira. Running into the catcher when he's blocking the plate is part of the game and if the catcher had his legs in position to make the play, he wouldn't have gotten hurt.
