    I think the stupidity of this contract speaks for itself. I'm done with the rationality speeches. As for "will Mookie get less if he doesn't play as well?" - he might not get $430mil, but unless he completely tanks to the Mendoza line with single digit taters, he's getting over $300mil easily. It's not really about the stats, because the stats have a ceiling of human ability. It's about the star power and putting asses in seats and eyes tuning in.

    I don't like the 26 roster, but I do like the trade deadline and limited September expansion. I'd actually eliminate September expansion altogether.

    The solution for me is not to get attached to any player. Sure, there are some I like, but I understand the business. I understand loyalty is not a given once there's bigger money to be made elsewhere. I will probably never buy another player jersey, unless it's a retired player. I'll just buy stuff with the team logo, because at the end of the day the team is the only constant, and the only thing that matters.

    One thing that will always stick with me from Ken Burns' Baseball is Curt Flood talking about going back to the clubhouse after games and all the players threw their uniforms in a pile and the clubhouse attendant picked out Flood's with a stick to be sent to the colored laundry. Disgraceful.

    This is great news. I've never thought the visual aspect was racist (I suppose the name is) but just that it looks f***ing stupid. I could never wear it if I were an Guardians fan.

    Comes back to my idea of an ebay for GMs, where bids are made and everyone sees the highest bid but not which team made it. This would prevent teams overpaying through being told that the guy had other offers.

    I'm not taking sides in what seems to have developed into an argument, but a casual fan is casual for a reason - they don't care about this s*** enough to learn it. Why should they?

    Harper might continue to play hard; my point is there are no repercussions if he doesn't.

    I'm very cynical because in my view baseball contracts are an inefficient system. Guaranteeing full payment for future performance is a huge risk for the team. Also, as for taking pride in playing the game, etc, there are plenty of players who mysteriously have their best season in their walk year.

    Factoring in the Harper contract, Betts now projects at $6,000,000,000,000 over 15 years.
