  1. Actually, what they need to do is throw them in prison for life, because I believe it's incurable and they'll always be a threat.
  2. Take out the chemical part... And in a semi-related note, since we're talking about sick people, I learned of Edmund Kemper last week and wish I hadn't.
  3. I hope the season doesn't turn into the tale of two bullpens.
  4. Given his choice of avatars, I'm thinking virgin.
  5. Hate to say it, but today was a must-win. Sale on the mound, the Yankees already having struck first. It's going to be a season-long battle, but we had to come out and make a statement. This wasn't it.
  6. Let's cut through the crap, Vaughn, I only got one thing to say to you. LET'S GO SOX
  7. Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch - haven't seen it. Ed - seen about 1/2 of it; it's as ridiculous as you would imagine. Rookie of the Year - cute movie. The Sandlot (best baseball movie of all time) - I still have not seen this. Major League - very good, some iconic lines and moments. Perfect choice of theme song. Brewster's Millions (it counts) - pretty good. Bad News Bears - it took two viewings before I "got" this movie. At least, I think I get it. Mr 3000 (underrated) - meh, it's OK as baseball comedies go. Bad News Bears Breaking Training - haven't seen it. A League of Their Own - saw it too long ago to remember much about it. The Pride of the Yankees - haven't seen it. Field of Dreams - I think it's good, I really need to rewatch it. Bull Durham - I don't care for Sarandon's character and the romance drags it down, but the stuff between Crash and "Nuke" is hilarious the Natural - didn't really get it/see what the fuss was about. It's kinda boring. Also receiving votes: It Happens Every Spring - good comedy with Ray Milland inventing a substance that makes it impossible for a bat to hit a ball. (I don't think it's shown in the movie, but I assume he switches out the doctored balls for regular ones now and again, or else a string of 27 strikeout perfect games would look a tad suspicious). Moneyball - the book was OK but became a bit of a chore to read after a while. I think the movie did a fair job of covering the basics and making it watchable, but Jonah Hill is terrible. Angels in the Outfield (1951) - if any baseball fans hate this movie, well, I just don't know what to say. The Fan - good psychological drama about De Niro, deranged fan, and Wesley Snipes as the player and source of his obsession. The book was better. Major League 2 - it's poor, but still has a couple of good jokes. 42 - wasn't feel good, didn't pull punches. 61* - good movie, the two actors playing Maris and Mantle were good. The Rookie - feel good movie based on a true story. Ken Burns' Baseball - required viewing. I think I saw the movie of Eight Men Out when I was a kid, but don't remember much. The book was amazing.
  8. I started watching For Love of the Game without realizing it's two and a half goddamn hours long. Story is pretty hokey, too.
  9. Fever Pitch was bad, but it's been so long since I saw it that I've forgotten why it's bad. It's still far from being the worst movie I've ever seen.
  10. I thought making new threads was frowned upon.
  11. Just delete all of moonslav's posts and that will knock the threads down to about 200 posts.... Seriously though, use search?
  12. Just so long as Puke doesn't win the championship, I'm good.
  13. I'm just amazed at the Mets' ability to extend anyone. If I was in their organization, I'd be on the first plane out once I hit FA.
  14. Hopefully Thor stops whining over other players' contracts.
  15. Hey. That's detritus to you.
  16. but since when did wisdom matter in mlb economics?
  17. On one hand, you need good pitching. On the other hand, $60m on 2 pitchers, one with shoulder concerns, isn't wise.
  18. Based on the evidence of 1 guy getting one in 83 years? I'd say the odds are not so good.
  19. Are there any that you forgive for playing for the enemy?
  20. when he's not pitching the HR Derby.
  21. As a huge critic of the Porcello deal, I have to admit we got way more out of him than I thought we would.
  22. Jesus, more complaining about pre-arbitration salaries. Does no one understand how a CBA works? Yeah, teams COULD pay more, but they don't have to. Everyone knows the rules. Players need to STFU and if it bothers them so much, press for change in the next CBA negotiations. https://deadspin.com/does-mlb-care-if-no-one-cares-1833054171
  23. I absolutely do not blame Mookie at all. Put yourself in his position. Why take $200 mil when your peers are getting much more than that? So sounds like either the Sox have to do a ridiculous overpay deal to keep him, or trade him as a rental. Not terribly upset about the latter, so long as the return is good. I already said I'd trade him tomorrow if that was what made the most sense at the time.
