  1. Despite the awful start to the year, Nava's OBP against righties is back up above .360 this year. If they keep him as a platoon option, he'll continue to be effective... its a shame Farrell doesn't know how to platoon.
  2. Woah there. That wasn't his fault -- he didn't know it was going to drop so stayed in the middle of 1st and 2nd to prevent the double play.
  3. Nava as DH, Mookie in left.
  4. I'm not disinterested-- I am just tired of the Lester Saga. I want him here for the rest of his career, or I want a top 20 prospect for him.
  5. Buy or Sell, I am starting to care less and less -- just don't let him go away in free agency for nothing.
  6. I was under the impression that the Cubs were going to get more for Shark, but this deal seems to be in the best interests of both teams. Theo gets yet another top tier prospect, and the A's get two quality pitchers for the stretch run, and Samardzija has another year of control so the A's will be able to get something for him. It seems like a perfect storm for Billy Beane to win the American League. The Rangers have been hammered by injuries, and the AL East has been a joke. Good luck to them.
  7. Sabathia likely out for the season with knee issues.
  8. Selig only has a few months left before stepping down -- considering that he has wanted an international draft for years, I doubt he'll be able to push it through. I was digging into this, and it looks like that kind of change would only be made along with a new labor agreement -- which doesn't expire until 2016.

It sounds like Lester is done talking about an extension right now, and no progress will be made until the offseason. If Lester is looking for a premium price, why not trade him for prospects now, and resign him at the crazy high number in the fall?
  10. The reason American soccer sucks is because American soccer fans don't support American soccer. They watch premier league games and other international leagues, and thus no one watches the MLS, which is a laughing stock in most of the US. It is easier for me to watch a Liverpool game than a Revolution game. Sponsorships are low, ratings are low, player contracts are low. Young athletes don't watch it, they don't hear about it, and they focus on the sports with bigger potential paychecks.
  11. While very irritated about the whole thing, this seems like a real coup for the Yankees. Very intelligent use of their resources, stockpiling top tier international prospects is no joke. Despite the fact that they pretty much announced the spending spree months ago, they seem to have caught the rest of baseball sleeping here, including the Red Sox. (Someone wake up Ben) If I was a Red Sox exec, I would have simply taken the blows this year, and done the same thing next year without Yankee competition -- instead they picked up a few good players, but lost the next two years of picks regardless, and are stuck in the same international draft slot as the Yankees again in 2017. If the Red Sox were to try again, they probably couldn't do it unimpeded until 2018, with prospects not coming to the majors until the 2020s.

There are two trade deadlines. One is the standard trade deadline, the other is the waiver trade deadline. After the trade deadline has passed, high salary players that are not claimed on waivers can still be traded -- That's how the Agon/Crawford/Beckett trade happened.
  13. Looks like it isn't just the Yanks. Apparently the Red Sox just snagged the best international pitcher available at 1.8 million.
  14. If the Yankees are losing out on their 2015 and 2016 picks, they probably need to grab a couple more before it will be worth it. Let's see what happens.
  15. I don't think the problem is just another bat. This team has a lot of good pieces, but the magic is gone. If Ortiz had hustled to second base last night, the Red Sox probably would have won. The young players on the team are in the too-good for AAA, but not-good-enough-for-the-majors stage of their careers. The RISP numbers are a much bigger problem than OBP numbers. It might be good to take the pressure off the youngsters and just let them prove, or disprove themselves this season without World Series anxiety. With the Nava/Gomes platoon looking like 2013 again, LF might be hard to improve on at a good price. CF and C seem like the only real needs, but those positions are expensive to fill, and who is available? Russell Martin is interesting. Drew Stubbs? Sell the farm for McCutchen? Curtis Granderson? These seem like very expensive moves.
  16. What is worse? Losing 90 games with a bunch of mediocre veterans, or losing 95 games with a bunch of kids that will be the team's future, and pulling in a haul of prospects?
  17. Losing two in a row to Arieta and Jackson, scoring a total of 1 run against them both. This team is toast. Start selling off pieces and get ready for next year.
  18. Umpires get together, look at the tape, and quickly decide that they would rather go home than try to figure whether Pedroia is safe or not.
  19. How on earth did Andrew Miller become this team's 7th inning guy?
  20. I do not accept a losing season. This team is too f***ing good to lose a series to the Chicago Cubs. 2013 Buchholz takes the mound against Edwin Jackson. Blowout win, 30-0, Mookie Betts with six grand slams.
  21. Ridiculous. Everyone knows that it is in fact Stephen Drew ruining Xander.
  22. Since Mookie Betts has been called up to the majors, the Red Sox are 2-0 against contending teams, 2-0 against AL East Opponents, have averaged 5 runs a game, and have a team ERA of 3.00. #smallsamplesizegoodness #mookiemadness
  23. Apparently there was a huge leak of The Astro's trade deadline notes and documents. Supposedly, the Red Sox were willing to give up Lavarnway or Marrero for Bud Norris.
  24. Mike Olt was a top 30 prospect in 2013, and Edwards was a top 30 prospect in 2014. So yeah, half a year of Garza netted two top tier prospects. I see no reason why Lester won't be valued like Garza last year.
