  1. On the bright side, I have always wished I could see more Pawsox games, but Rhode Island is a bit far. I also believe Fenway should not be used for major league games anymore, and it could be used as a stadium for the Pawsox full time. Well, it looks like both of those will happen this year.
  2. Apparently Ben told Peavy that he may be dealt, according to Peavy.
  3. In all fairness, Ben did acquire Holt in the Hanrahan trade.
  4. I think we have a lot to look forward to. We'll get to see the future of the Red Sox team. There will be a pile of young players who will finally get an extended look. Xander, Betts, Cecchini, maybe WMB. Rubby, Ranaudo, Workman, Webster -- maybe even Owens. And here is the best part: If these prospects suck, we'll be able to figure it out while they play against major league opponents and replace them at season's end. I think we are guaranteed to see about $200 million worth of spending this offseason, although that may include Lester.
  5. In all fairness, if there ever was a good time to throw out a stinker, it would be the year after a world series. If they hadn't won it all, the fan support would be very different.
  6. The Marlins will end up getting 3 top prospects, a cost controlled lefty starter that they can probably trade next year for something better, and WMB who they supposedly covet for his power. I think that's enough for them. I don't know Lester personally, but if the Red Sox communicate the strategy well enough, he is the real winner in the deal. He gets to go on a vacation and pitch for a contender likely to go to the playoffs. He gets a massive contract from the team he loves, and that team just reloaded with an early draft pick and Giancarlo Stanton. He also no longer has draft pick compensation attached, so he can choose another team if he so wants.
  7. And they're tied for 5th in the AL at a 3.87 ERA. It is tough to beat the AL West teams in pitching simply because of the difference in park factors. The pitching really isn't the problem.
  8. Someone pointed out the statistic that the Red Sox are #2 in the AL in quality starts. They have given the team a chance to win -- the offense just hasn't done anything.
  9. I am decided on the best course of action -- Step 1) Trade Lester + Koji for prospects, use those prospects and some combination of WMB, Doubront, and homegrown prospects for Stanton. Step 2) Finish the season, pull in a top draft pick. Re-sign Lester, rebuild bullpen. Step 3) Profit.
  10. Lester was pushed back a game? That seems strange, it means he will only get to pitch one more time before the all star game. Why rest one of your starters who is leaving for free agency in a deadend season? They're either preparing to trade him, or giving him some free time to concentrate on an extension.
  11. I believe the Yankee organization is solely at fault here. $10 million in damages isn't enough, $100 million seems about right. I also think that penalty should be applied to their luxury tax threshold. In all seriousness, this is dumb.
  12. Looks like Houston's #1 pick has elbow issues. Youch. They haven't signed him yet... maybe they should just send him back and get the #2 pick next year. Not like they'll be contending any time soon anyway.
  13. Sell! Sell! Sell! New idea: Trade Koji, and Lester for some top notch prospects, and pool them together with WMB, Doubront, and one or two other pieces to Miami for Stanton. Resign Lester in the offseason, and the team has very good pitching again, and a reinvigorated offense. Add a few free agents -- lots of relief help unfortunately -- and this team is in very good shape. Best of all, the FO gets around the problem of being too sell-happy and losing fan interest because they just got motherfriggern Giancarlo Stanton.
  14. No can do Thunder. Tell you what -- when the Red Sox are mathematically eliminated you have my permission.
  15. Two years ago, the Red Sox had a better team and still traded away key players. I trust Ben to not get overly sentimental when it comes to dealing key players for franchise altering prospects.
  16. Lester is the second best starter available, and Koji is the best reliever available. No reason not to pull in prospects for those guys. In addition to Peavy and Gomes, I would imagine Drew, AJ, Ross, Doubront and all relievers besides Tazawa should be available for the right price. I keep mentioning it, but the Red Sox do have a lot of guys they can probably move at the waiver deadline to desperate teams.
  17. Double header followed by a five+ hour game. Hopefully these guys don't get too worn out.
  18. Ross had tried about 20 pickoff attempts this game. Finally gets one in the 10th haha.
  19. Pedroia started sliding wayyy to early there. Oh well, 0-21
  20. The Red Sox scored more this inning than they did in the entire month of June.

Getting swept by the Cubs pretty much meant the end of this team's year. The Red Sox are 8 games behind on the AL East, 9 games on an AL Wildcard slot.... but they are also only 4 games ahead on the 1st overall draft pick. Who knows, it might be worthwhile to make some strategic trades to get an elite prospect.
  22. The Red Sox must be 0-20 on challenges this year. They seem to lose every single one, whether they are right or not.
  23. Acquiring a guy who was shelled in the NL West, and has serious injury concerns. Either the Yanks aren't committed to this season, or there is another move coming.
  24. I would imagine baseball has suffered from the world cup this year. However, the Red Sox, Yankees, Giants are all up on per game attendance so far. The White Sox and Cubs are down, but in all fairness, they suck and have sucked for a while.
