  1. 1-7 in extra innings is because they have zero depth in the bullpen. Buchholz and Lester will beat bad teams 85% of the time.
  2. I wonder if Laroche bought a new place during the six days he was in Boston.
  3. http://www.csnne.com/06/15/10/Red-Sox-prospect-Doubront-to-start-vs-Do/v1_landing.html?blockID=254216&feedID=3352
  4. Breaking news. Doubront is pitching for Dice-k. Discuss.
  5. The refs are pushing this one to the Lakers. f*** NBA referring.
  6. 800+ OPS seems a bit unrealistic, especially considering that's better than we'd see from Ellsbury. But if he can stay around 700, that's perfectly fine, and maybe he'll be pick up some trade value once the rest of the outfield gets healthy.
  7. The great thing about being a general manager is you can conveniently place the blame onto someone else.
  8. Yeah, but his career .231 average won't.
  9. Wake is fine for a sixth starter. I don't think he's suited to start a season as a #3/4/5 ever again, but he's great in a pinch for spot starts and long relief and he can sure eat innings.
  10. Francona sounds cryptic, but I get the feeling they probably are having difficulty getting information from Dice-k. Although, by that, the best case scenario of him missing only one more start is about right.
  11. Press member to Pierce "What can you say about the third quarter when you are kobe were like dueling banjos, with you with 11 and Kobe with 19 points?"
  12. Bynum's health made a huge difference again. He just wasn't jumping high enough or really making any big plays. And its not just that-- the lack of his body in the paint shows Gasol looking weak and soft, because he doesn't get that kind of support from Odom.
  13. Bynum's health is crucial to the rest of the series. He dominates the matchup between him and Perkins. I'd argue that when he's on(and that's incredibly rare because of his health), he's just as big defensively as Dwight Horward because he has the 7 foot tall Gasol helping him out. Seven blocked shots in game three. If Ray and Paul aren't on from the 3 point line, those two guys make it almost impossible to get good shots off when in the paint, and even tougher to get a rebound. There is such a huge difference between Bynum and Odom, and you can tell by what Glen Davis did in game 4 without Bynum. Kobe will get his points, but I don't think the Lakers can win with Odom.
  14. Beautiful play by Nava.
  15. More impressive-- he went back out there.
  16. Considering that the bullpen pitched 9 innings yesterday, 7 innings from Wakefield is gold. Bitchers be damned, 7 innings and keeping the Sox in the game is more than enough from him.
  17. The only question I have is... with the numbers he's had in AA and AAA, why isn't he a top prospect?
  18. Hamels is about average for a NL pitcher this year. Last time out, he failed a no-hit bid in the 8th with 121 pitches, and I would bet his body is wiped from that. Plus, that was against the Padres. It'll be closer to 4-6 runs than 10-12
  19. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100612&content_id=11103712&notebook_id=11105410&vkey=notebook_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb The extent of Beckett's workouts is that he's playing catch right now. He won't be ready to pitch next week. They won't trade for/sign a new player if Dice-k will be fine two starts from now. Doubront is the best they've got right now. One bad start in the majors won't destroy his confidence. Doubront pitching 5 innings is far better than the bullpen pitching 9 like they did today.
  20. He's a young kid. Innings are something that comes with time. What, do you think he's just never going to pitch more than 80 pitches?
  21. He dominated in the winter league. He dominated in Portland. Now he's untouchable in Pawtucket. What more evidence do you need?
  22. Fortunately they have an off day after tomorrow.
  23. He should be resting his back anyway. Give him tomorrow off, then the off-day, and he'll be fine.
