  1. Dice-k will miss atleast one more start. I'd say hell with it, give him one game in the majors to see what he's got.
  2. His first game, he only pitching one inning. Two strikeouts, 0.00 whip. Using that in his average IP is twisting statistics to make him look bad. In the last three games, he's thrown 87, 89 and 68 pitches, to 5+ inning starts. He still needs to work on endurance, but if he can repeat those results, he'll be averaging 6+ innings per start easy.
  3. Hey... I wonder what Pedro is up to these days.
  4. Atchison has never thrown more than 50 pitches in the majors, and he's in the high 30s. I don't think he'll last.
  5. The announcers said it was the first home run for a red sox on a first AB since 1946. Throw in 3 more rbis, and the first pitch, and I think its improbable.
  6. 15 day DL on an arm strain. Sounds tame. Best case scenario, he misses two starts.
  7. That's gotta be some kind of Red Sox record... Grand Slam in his first pitch in the majors?
  8. Any predictions for tonite? I think if he keeps his walks down, he'll go 7 strong innings. If not, he'll go 5 weak ones.
  9. The Phillies can't hit anything right now, and Dice-k has been rolling. Obviously, this is Dice-k, and it all really depends on whether he feels like it.
  10. Rondo is still really young. He's put up monstrous games in the playoffs, games so good they've compared him to the all-time greats. Better yet, statistically, his 29 point game was the 3rd best triple double in NBA playoff history. Sure, a lot of that has to do with the guys on his team, but the rest of the team hasn't exactly been consistent. He has a lot of plays that are in the highlight reels, but he's not quite there yet. In two years, he'll be the best point guard in the league, but he needs some work on his jumpshot first.
  11. I miss you dearly, 2008 Dice-k.
  12. Varitek works fine as a part timer, possibly a platoon option. But too much playing time hurt him a lot last year, and he's hit well with lots of time off this year. Plus his defense has never been all that great either. They're going to need someone else to catch around 100 games. But then again, the team has a lot of interesting possibilities in the minors. My expectations for catcher aren't too high, so I would bet the team will be able to fill them.
  13. Is he really 36 already? Well, either way, Laird will be a blackhole in the lineup, and really isn't a better choice. My point was, go for a cheap defensive catcher that can hit in the .250s, and I don't have confidence Laird can do that now.
  14. Well, if they were going to call someone up early... I'd prefer it be the guy with the 850 OPS in the minors rather than the guy with the 500 OPS in the minors.
  15. That's probably the worst start of his career. Certainly the worst in the last ten years, and I didn't feel like checking any further back than that.
  16. It looks like a Laser Show tonite.
  17. Does Nate Robinson count?
  18. Suggestions for a new Beltre nickname-- Bonecrusher, Ribbasher, Beltre the Barbarian, Adrian the Impaler...
  19. If they feel that one big trade will get them to the post season, they'll do it. But if its going to be the difference between coming 3rd or 4th in the AL East what's the point? McDonald and Hermida have been passable short term solutions. Atchison, Boof Bonser, Schoenweiss and Nelson have not. If they haven't traded for middle relief yet, why believe that they are going to trade for a new outfielder? I'm not giving up on the season, but as we saw the last few nights, Buchholz, Lester, Bard and Papelbon can't pitch shutouts every single game. The rest of the pitching staff needs some consistency. Or they could fire Farrell.
  20. Its about time for John Lackey to start rolling.
  21. Weren't you the one convincing me that Beltre was going to meet his plate appearances clause and pick up the 10 million dollar option? Vmart will leave, and the team will go with a cheaper alternative in a defensive catcher. Bengie Molina would be great. Use a rotation DH instead of a dedicated DH, and the team has more defensive depth, and could potentially pick up another outfielder ie Werth/Crawford. The rotation has a huge upside, plus Doubront/Kelley will be ready soon enough. Use some of the huge amounts of money coming off the books for a lot of bullpen help, and this team is in great shape.
  22. Hey Suns, I hear good things about this Guardians fan forum. Maybe you should check it out? http://www.indians247.com/index.php?board=2.0
  23. As I mentioned in the Ellsbury thread, it seems unlikely that the Sox are going to part with the pieces necessary to get him. I seriously do believe they'll stick with Cameron/McDonald in CF and Hall/Hermida/McDonald in LF and take advantage of platoons.
