  1. The Cubs give their #1, #5 and #7 prospects to rent a wife-beater who was worth no-name prospects last spring. Wow.
  2. Buchholz should not have a roster spot over Hembree.
  3. With Sale becoming available, it certainly makes me ask the question: Would a package of Espinoza/Erod/Margot/Guerra/Swihart have gotten it done? It seems like all this team's assets went for small fish, when we all wanted tuna.
  4. This is the same situation as James Shields. He's expensive and getting towards the mid 30s.
  5. I didn't forget about Stephen Drew. There hasn't been a meaningful trade between the teams since I started being a Red Sox fan. It just doesn't happen.
  6. People keep talking about this road trip... but the competition isn't that great. The Angels are bad. The Mariners aren't anything special. The Dodgers rotation is down Kershaw and Ryu.
  7. Stephen Drew was hitting .176 at the time. He barely was a major leaguer at that point.
  8. The other problem is that the Yankees and Red Sox don't make trades.
  9. The Red Sox just swept the team with the best team in the majors, and took hold of first place, and are playing against a lot of bad teams the next few weeks.
  10. Pom Pom owes Hanley a beer.
  11. Hanley Ramirez just owned Suarez. That was f***ing hilarious.
  12. Barnes for closer?
  13. f*** Dombrowski. f*** Dombrowski so much.
  14. Early impression: How is this better than Buchholz exactly?
  15. The Sox wouldn't be giving him any more money. If they can get him without giving up significant talent, it seems like a solid move. Santana gives has averaged 200 IP/4.00 ERA over his career. You stash E-rod, let him develop a bit more. You build significant rotation depth before an offseason with very few starters. Take the pressure off Johnson/Owens and maybe use them as trade chips for a key upgrade.
  16. Tazawa is supposedly coming back on Friday. Barnes and Hambree are serviceable. Ziegler can close.
  17. The Sox are probably staying involved just in case.
  18. Much in the same way as Betts and Bogaerts. You win some, you lose some.
  19. Price can't leave them in too big of a hole with that monster of a bullpen.
  20. Didn't Buchholz miss a few games for a sore fingenail on his non pitching hand a while back?
  21. I fully understand Pomeranz's breakout. He could be the real deal, a cost controlled #2. My concern is health/durability. We needed someone to be this rotation's savior for 100 more IP, and then ask him to pitch 30-50 more IP in the playoffs. Is Pomeranz that guy?
  22. This is the key problem. I'm not a huge fan of Dombo's moves, but he does like going for the best guys available. This season, Pomeranz was exactly that. It just seems to be silly to pay "best guy available" prices for a guy like Pomeranz.
  23. Objectively, I don't understand how anyone can say good things about Dumbo's job so far. He's spent hundreds of millions and traded three top 50 prospects. What do we have to show for it? Third place and most of his acquisitions are on the DL. For the prices he's paid, we should have two aces.
  24. I literally used the same words "massive overpay". The problem is that the Sox needed another mid rotation pitcher. Hill is 36 and injury prone. Gray, Harvey, Tyson have been hurt/ineffective. Sale/Fernandez are not available, and if they were Moncada + Beni might be gone too. There's absolutely nothing available next offseason. Espinoza was 3-4 years off. Friggen Sean O'Sullivan hit the DL. Where do you find another pitcher? You can't give up 6 ER a game and expect to win.
  25. Drew Pomeranz's turnaround this season came with the development of a plus cutter. He isn't just having a lucky season, he's a young pitcher who found himself. 27 year old arm, three years of control, decent groundball numbers. Maybe this doesn't turn into a complete disaster? Considering that this team hasn't developed any elite pitchers in a long time, it seems like a massive overpay to trade away an ace-potential prospect for someone with such a short track record. My grade: C-
