  1. I was listening to this one on the radio, and I was amazed by Buchholz's middle innings. He was completely shelled, and the Orioles team just couldn't close out the game. 12 base runners, 2 runs, that's unheard of. What does it mean for Buchholz? Is it a confidence builder, proving to himself that he can get out of very tough situations, or is he just going to get shelled every game this year? Also, Joe Castig kept talking about the Orioles lack of speed -- there were a few times runners on 2nd didn't score on base hits. It was a big disadvantage against the Royals last year, and it sounded like a big problem yesterday.
  2. Clearly, he must be afraid of my dream team roster if he's going to those kinds of lengths to try to beat me this week.
  3. Workman had all the signs of a pitcher who should be relieving. People around here talk about "pitchers who lose it the second and third through a rotation" and 9 times out of 10 have no real data behind. Workman's numbers last year actually support it.
  4. I'm very surprised this hasn't come up yet. We have a guy who was an excellent reliever that the Red Sox failed to convert to a starter, thus ruining the player. Seems like a FO move that that would have been heavily blasted by now.
  5. Jose Reyes of the Jays has a cracked rib, and will try to play through it. Remember when that happened to Ells?
  6. So far, this team has won the games that good teams are supposed to win. The bullpen has survived a pair of tough games tied late. Of the three losses, two have been games where the starter gets destroyed.
  7. The Cubs promoting Bryant? On the very day that he loses a year of free agent eligibility? What a strange, funny coincidence. I cannot believe how many people have been surprised by this.

  9. 5 or 6 IP, 3 ER. Is that too much to ask? Why is it that pitchers come to Fenway and just turn into single A scrubs?
  10. Oh, I just assumed Ortiz was in. That sucks.
  11. Nap, Sandoval and Hannigan all getting the night off, but Xander is back in. It would be great to see Craig start heating up.
  12. Regarding Masterson-- I didn't realize this, but he has only allowed one extra base hit in both games. The problem has been walks, HBP, and a s*** ton of singles. ERA 7.59, 9.28 K/9, 64.5 GB%, FIP 2.88, xFIP 3.24,
  13. Bradley completely lost his swing last year. He wasn't even hitting anything in AAA last year either.
  14. His ceiling is a gold glover with a .700 OPS. Supposedly excellent defense, and his bat is coming around. If Bogaerts doesn't stick, he could be this team's next SS. "League Average" at SS is pretty mediocre, like a .600 OPS. That being said, this team has a long history of trading second-tier shortstops. Shortstop is perhaps the easiest position to fill in free agency, because so few shortstops differentiate themselves from the rest. See Iggy/Lowrie/Aviles trades, and Scutaro/Drew acquisitions.
  15. Every April, they load the schedule with day games. Frustrating, but what can you do.
  16. The Red Sox have a bunch of rotation candidates in Pawtucket. Brian Johnson is 24, has three solid pitches and is beating up on minor league pitching. Steven Wright has looked serviceable. The stud prospects probably aren't ready yet, but I would take any of those guys over Masterson right now.
  17. Tough win tonight. Bogaerts, Pablo and Castillo all hurting. Masterson got shelled and certainly isn't helping an exhausted bullpen. Also, Hanley at 3B. What's up with that?
  18. #fireTheo It is very early. Lester's highest ERA is usually in April/May, and he usually settles down to better numbers in the sumer and fall. I wouldn't be concerned about him, Lester is a stud.
  19. On ESPN last week, they were talking about this. Apparently Lester had gone all of 2014 without throwing a pickoff. It was something heavily dissected this offseason with his free agency, and teams have definitely caught on. The other factor is that teams were probably afraid to run with David Ross as his personal caddy. Teams must have found out that Ross is old and not quite as good as he used to be.
  20. I'll be at this one. Hopefully I'll have time to pick up a new Mookie t-shirt before the game.
  21. Apparently the Red Sox and Nationals were in serious discussions over Zimmerman this offseason. Rizzo said that there were some realistic trade offers made to them, but they decided it was better to keep their insane pitching staff intact. I'd love to see the Sox beat up on the Nats the next two days. It could potentially open doors to trade candidates.
  22. What don't you find appealing about them? That pitching in D.C.! Seattle has Felix, and Oakland has a bunch of former Red Sox players.
  23. MLB.TV has been not been working so well this year -- I have been having lots and lots of problems with the service.
  24. Porcello's pitch count is still very low. He just needs to keep going.
  25. Nationals look terrible today.
