  1. Aaron Cook with WMB/Iggy/Pedroia/Agon behind him could be very devastating. Cook's first game with Iglesias will be a fun one to watch.
  2. The price probably WILL be too high. If the Cubs keep him, they can offer arbitration and get a first rounder. I'd hesitate to GIVE a first rounder to the Cubs to rent a guy who had a near 5.00 ERA last year.
  3. I was thinking about this earlier, but it isn't a fair comparison. Salty may get to 30 home runs, but if he has a .280 OBP, it doesn't meant a whole lot.
  4. An .800 OPS and 17 HR from a catcher is respectable, even though his overall game is not so great. If he's cost controlled, even better. He won't get much back, but maybe they could pull back an undeveloped pitching prospect with a #4 ceiling for him.
  5. In Punto's first two months here, he got six hits. In Pedro's first three games here, he got seven hits. Pedro-sanity!
  6. Remember when we used to have base runners that seriously distracted the opposing team's pitcher? Man I'm sure the heart of the order missed that.
  7. You've never been in a dive bar with a jumbo tv before?
  8. I'm a fan. It used to be so high in the corner that older TVs would cut off the score sometimes.
  9. Red Sox Nation better get up on their feet and cheer their hearts out for Youk.
  10. Relievers have a short shelf life. He could blow out his arm, turn ineffective, or have a career ending surgery where he ends up leaking spinal fluid. Or the Phillies could start sucking next year with Hamels/Victorino gone, and Lee/Halladay starting to age, and he'll have significant fewer save ops.
  11. Remember the Cliff Lee/Halladay deal?
  12. Teams will want him to play for a few weeks first. Obviously Ellsbury would be a guy who comes down to the very end of the trade deadline in order for teams to see if he still has it together after the injury. That being said, I want nothing to do with a Felix trade. Seattle wants far too much for him, he's been completely untested in Seattle, and there are plenty of other elite pitchers available.
  13. On a serious note-- there are guys that all of baseball watches. Can't miss guys. Strasburg,Verlander, Kemp, etc etc. Every team in baseball will want Ellsbury-- all they need to do is get the medical reports together.
  14. I can name a three team trade that involved two pitchers of Felix's caliber, which I think should be worth more.
  15. You just pointed out the best relievers in baseball history. Papelbon is not in that group. He's elite, and very very good, but he's in the next group under that. Crazy numbers here: Papelbon's ERA -- 3.18 Red Sox's team relief ERA - -3.10
  16. 2004, you're new around here, so I'll give you some advice. You won't get Iortiz and a700 to budge about Papelbon. I've gone about it every single angle, and there is no ground to be gained. I've run through the numbers, WAR per dollar, decline, the full point difference in ERA difference between his 2009-2011 years versus his 2006-2008 years.... I've even showed them that 95% of the richest relief pitcher contracts for non-Rivera players have turning into complete and utter busts. It always ends up being an agree-to-disagree argument.
  17. Middlebrooks, the Ryans, and the killer B's all look to have bright futures. Seattle would probably ask for three of those guys, and at 20 million a year for Felix, I just don't think it is worth it. Especially considering that you could get Garza for only one of those prospects, and considering that Felix pitches 100+ games in either Seattle or Oakland.
  18. --Hey Pirates GM, how are you? --Great Ben, our team is actually winning for once. What's up? --I'm selling on Ellsbury, can you give me three good prospects for him? --Three is tough Ben. I can do two. --Works for me. Can you send them to Seattle for Felix? Doesn't seem all that complicated to me.
