  1. There are a lot of multi-city fans here. The most frequent poster here is a Giants fan, and the second most frequent poster is a Yankees/Jets fan. Its no big deal, as long as you're respectful. Philly is in the other league/conference for MLB/NFL, and they suck in NBA, so most of us don't care much.
  2. In all fairness, Victorino and Pence are free agents in 2013 and 2014 respectively, and Juan Pierre patrols left right now, and could probably be replaced. That being said, Ross and Nava are not the trade pieces for the Phillies. If they're looking for a new outfielder, Kalish would probably be the best fit for them. I wonder if Ryan Kalish + Ranaudo would get the deal done? That seems almost palatable for me, and they get a decent return for the rental, but probably not enough.
  3. The Red Sox have been getting more heat than any other team in the majors though. If Greinke has 2-3 bad starts early, it will snowball, and it could worsen. He also might not even want to sign with the sox, after everything that has happened.
  4. I'm not necessarily saying to get rid of all the veterans. I'm convinced that the Beckett situation will only grow worse and worse as the year goes on, and getting rid of him will allow Lester to step into a role as the leader of the pitching staff, and open up money for one of the other elite pitchers available next year. Cody Ross is so cheap, and so effective that he may return an elite prospect from a low budget contender. Shoppach-- one year contract, gives Lavarnway his shot. Albers could be attractive to a team looking for some relief help. I'm just not convinced that their ability to put up big numbers against bad pitching is going to get them to a World Series. Their starting pitching has been shameful this year. There isn't a pitcher on that rotation that I trust right now. I just get the feeling that they have a lot of good trade pieces that aren't going to be a big part of their future, and this may be a good bridge year between the 2011 collapse, and the 2013-17 dynasty.
  5. I hesitate hard on spending big to get a three month rental. The Ryans and the killer B's should be considered untouchable for anyone not named Felix, Justin, Timmy or Clayton. Wandy, Sanchez, and Marcum may be #2 type pitchers, but they still improve the rotation significantly, and don't completely jeopardize the team's future. They may be had for Ranaudo and change. Hell, part of me still wants to blow it up, reap the benefits, and come in strong for 2013/2014 with a haul of prospects.
  6. As of June 14th. God, I hope he doesn't get that 6 million for 2012.
  7. It looks like there are a ton of good pitchers on bad teams this year. Most likely to be traded at the top. Wandy Rodriguez Garza Hamels Dempster Greinke Marcum Anibal Sanchez Lee Gallardo Trevor Cahill Halladay Felix Hernandez
  8. I would not want to touch Cliff Lee with a stick, personally. He's 33 years old, and he has 112 million on his contract for the next four years. 28 million a year is ridiculous for ages 34-37 of a player who may already be slowing down. Unless the Red Sox dump Beckett or another big contract, it seems like a bad idea. Halladay is the guy you put up your chips for.
  9. The Yankees will seriously regret letting the Red Sox hang around in the division.
  10. The Red Sox should be targeting Marcum. He'll be much more affordable than Greinke/Hamels/Garza, much more likely to sign long term, and he's actually succeeded in the AL East. Hell, he has a lower career ERA than Garza too.
  11. The question is... would you give up two of the following for one of those arms: Lavarnway, Bogaerts, Bradley, Barnes? My answer would be no.
  12. The AL East will seriously, seriously regret not putting the Red Sox away.
  13. They've had trouble with Laffey all game. Maybe they thought it was the only one they'd get?
  14. He hit .300 here last year, went white hot in September when the Red Sox needed someone to step up, and he was the only major player whose name didn't come up in the chicken and beer story. So you trade him for spare parts, make Aviles your starter (who has a much lower OBP mind you) and add a nothing player like Punto to the mix? And he always seemed to perform even through big injuries.
  15. I'll be at the game tonight. Go Sox!
  16. Ellsbury is not coming back to Boston in 2014, that's why.
  17. In the big picture, it wasn't just about Crawford. Some of the moves he made seemed like good ones at the time. But Jenks? If it wasn't for him, they could have kept Scutaro.
