  1. Good shortstops are tough to come by. He turns into a valuable trade chip midseason.
  2. I'd rather see more Bradley in 2019 than 2013. I think it makes sense to give him more time in AA/AAA before promoting him-- that's a move that could definitely backfire.
  3. I don't even know where to put this, but there was an interesting article in the globe about charities run by professional athletes. http://www.boston.com/business/2013/02/23/nonprofit-game-many-athletes-post-losing-records/6SLCmkOTWXy8pYQPLqcFyI/story.html On A-rod
  4. I think Cherrington learned his lesson from Josh Reddick. We'll definitely be seeing the Red Sox hoard their prospects for a while, and they probably won't be trading any top 10 prospects unless it is for an ace.
  5. Last I heard, Webster was able to reach back to hit 96. Adding 3 MPH to his fastball in an offseason seems pretty extreme. Either the gun was juiced, or he's a much better pitcher than he's been receiving credit for. Can we talk about how insanely good last year's blockbuster was for the Red Sox?
  6. An interesting matchup today... Steven Wright against RA Dickey. After two innings, Red Sox up 2-0.
  7. Here's a crazy chart that ESPN showed this morning HR 43 Granderson 24 Swisher 21 Martin 19 Ibanez 18 Arod 16 Chavez 14 Jones
  8. Either way, the Blue Jays must be feeling pretty good about themselves right now.
  9. Protip: posters here don't like it when you're optimistic about the Red Sox using facts. However, being pessimistic about the Yankees using facts is okay.
  10. Early reports say only a couple of weeks, but that sounds overly optimistic.
  11. It really isn't. The majority of their team is coming off major injuries, or in a state of decline, and they're the oldest team in baseball. They've lost Ibanez, Chavez, Martin, Swisher, and Soriano to free agency, and A-rod, Granderson and Hughes to injuries. Their top prospects spent most of 2012 in single A.
  12. I saw that snippet this morning, kind of surprised Vazquez came up. I thought he was on the cusp of being kicked off the 40 man roster. He might turn into a backup catcher in the majors some day.
  13. With injuries to Phil Hughes and Granderson, and a very high aged team, Yankee fans really should be getting concerned about their 2013 team. With one or two more key injuries, they could realistically be looking at 5th.
  14. Oh Don Orsillo, how I missed your voice.
  15. Did Lackey allow both runs, or just one?
  16. I read that article this morning. Yahoo is pulling here. They asked him straight up, and he basically said, sure, why not.
  17. This is with the assumption that he returns to form. If he's still hitting batters, and having control issues, he stays in Pawtucket.
  18. That's the beauty of using Bard as the relief ace. You still have Hanrahan for the 9th. You also still have some combination of Uehara/Bailey/Tazawa for the later innings, and Miller/Breslow for lefties.
  19. I also gave an example, which clarified what I meant.
  20. I have no idea where you found that from my posts. Hanrahan is the closer, and that's where he should be. Bad closers lose games. Bad middle relief makes games harder to win.
  21. Are you familiar with the term relief ace? The idea is that you use your best reliever in the highest leverage situations, ie two baserunners and no outs in the 6th. The Red Sox could get high value out of him, without necessarily putting him back into the fire.
  22. They'll never give him another starting role. If Farrell is smart, he'll turn into a relief ace in middle innings. That way he won't have the pressure of 8th/9th inning, but at the same time he'll still add plenty of value to the team.
  23. I read this post, and assumed it was a700. Take that as you will.
  24. Over the last 4 seasons-- Hamilton -- .305 .360 .555 .915 R. Cano --- .314 .365 .534 .899 Similar age entering free agency. One player is significantly more valuable defensively, and doesn't have drug issues. I think its a no-brainer.
