  1. The Tigers are looking for a closer, and may be willing to trade Rick Porcello. Maybe if Bailey gets his s*** together in spring training there may be a fit.
  2. Is it just me, or do the Red Sox seem to draft more idiots than other teams? First Brentz shoots himself in the foot, and now this. Well done gentlemen.
  3. Its the offseason, and there isn't much going on in the term of news, things will pick up in April. I could have sworn both E1 and UN? both recently referred to personal reasons why they haven't been around much.
  4. Have a good trip! Get a Daniel Nava autograph for me, will ya?
  5. So, apparently the Rangers have decided to look at Kyle Lohse again. And yet, Boras refuses to budge from a 3/45 contract. Hilarious.
  6. Also, Stephen Drew is perhaps the most bland interview I've ever seen.
  7. The Red Sox are playing Tampa Bay right now... but NESN is showing a repeat of the Yankee game from yesterday. Can we talk about how dumb this is?
  8. I posted this in the WBC thread as well, but I've been wondering how will the WBC affect the major league season in 2013? Here are some of the players who'll be representing AL East teams. The more I look at it, I start to wonder if this may hurt Toronto's chances of dominating the AL East as some expected. Rays -- Ramos, Zobrist, Fernando Rodney, Jose Molina Red Sox -- Bogaertz, Aceves, Victorino Baltimore -- Adam Jones, Pedro Strop Yankees -- Cano, Texeira, Melky Mesa Jays -- R.A. Dickey, Reyes, Lawrie, Encarnacion, Arencibia
  9. The real question we have to ask is.... How will the WBC affect the major league season in 2013? Here are some of the players who'll be representing AL East teams. The more I look at it, I start to wonder if this may hurt Toronto's chances of dominating the AL East as some expected. Rays -- Ramos, Zobrist, Fernando Rodney, Jose Molina Red Sox -- Bogaertz, Aceves, Victorino Baltimore -- Adam Jones, Pedro Strop Yankees -- Cano, Texeira, Melky Mesa Jays -- R.A. Dickey, Reyes, Lawrie, Encarnacion, Arencibia
  10. But it would certainly have hurt the box office if he wasn't in the organization any longer, and someone like Nava was the permanent DH.
  11. Cano and Texeira are both playing in the WBC. Not sure why that isn't bigger news-- those are two of the last players the Yankees should want to risk getting injured.
  12. Let me put this into perspective you. How many prospects would you give up for one season of Cabrera? One season of Felix Hernandez? One season of Prince Fielder? His 2011 value was better than the best season of any of those guys, and we're talking about 2-3 WAR difference from their best seasons. The question isn't in what value does one year of a player go for. The question is, can he prove to other teams that he can play to that level again.
  13. In all fairness, even if he is a pretend doctor, his diagnosis on players is spot-on 95% of the time.
  14. Retracted. I was looking at his 2012 numbers, and made an assumption. I didn't realize he's been so bad over the course of his career.
  15. The real problem for the Yankees is that Cano is truly one of those players you need to hold onto. Sometimes you look at a player, and you can see holes in their skills, health and personality, but you pay him anyway. We're talking about the class of players including Hamilton, Crawford, Greinke. Cano isn't one of those guys. He's in the upper echelon, of guys like Sabathia, Holliday, Halladay who seem primed to continue to be successful. He's played 155+ games the last few years, spotless health, nearly elite defense, high average, power, counting stats. Even home/away splits. Hits righties better than lefties, but nothing out of the ordinary. Handles Yankee Stadium.... If only he could hit in the playoffs.
  16. Ofcourse, the durability of that rotation carried them that year. I've said it in another thread, but replacing Dice-k with Lackey will probably be a huge help to the bullpen. Dice-k averaged 5.30 innings from 2009-2012. In 2010, Lackey averaged 6.50 innings, in his career 6.38. Even in his disaster season in 2011 he averaged 5.73 innings per game.
  17. Buchholz had an ERA+ of 187 in 2010.
  18. Lester and Buchholz do not hold a candle to Pedro and Schilling, but I do believe they can compete with their 2004 stats. I don't think that is completely unreasonable.
  19. Mike Lowell was in camp teaching WMB about 3B skills this week. What can Rolen do that he can't? Besides wasting a spot on the bench.
  20. Pedro pitched his entire career smack in the middle of the steroid era, and his worst full season of his career came during the 2004 season.
  21. Did you look at the stats? Those guys were way past their primes. 2004 was arguably Pedro's worst full season of his career. Schilling had a good season, but was it any different than Lester's 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011?
  22. The crazy thing about the 2004 team is that we always seem to forget that it was a team made of mortals. The 2013 rotation certainly has the potential to beat out the 2004 one: Schilling -- 3.20 ERA. Pedro -- 3.90 ERA. Arroyo 4.02 Wakefield -- 4.87 Lowe 5.42 ERA
  23. Jung, you have some really great baseball knowledge, and you contribute well here. But please help us all out and clean some of these thesis papers down:lol: But anyway, the big difference is going to come from the back end of the bullpen. Dice-k went 5.38 IP per game from 2009-2012. Brutal. Lackey in Boston in 2010? 6.5 IP per game. If we see 2010 Lackey, we're talking about giving 30 innings back to the bullpen. That's half of a reliever.
  24. Its definitely hard to get everyone on the same page, but in all fairness, the first two drafts were on St Patty's Day, and the Saturday night prior to St Patty's Day. Everyone under the age of 50 in Boston is pretty much toasted.
