I use Yahoo Sports as my go-to resource. Very useful friendly, and it has all the basic baseball stats you need. BR, FG, and ESPN are significantly slower and stiffer. It also has the best diagram for MLB depth charts, and a very clean program to see team schedules. I'd also argue that their fantasy baseball is the best as well.
Actually, yeah, they have been lighting the minors on fire.
Webster -- 2.40 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, .156 BAA in AAA.
Ranaudo -- 1.67 ERA, .90 WHIP, .176 BAA.
De La Rosa -- 3.65 ERA, .180 BAA... but has allowed only 1 run in the last 18 innings.
The interesting thing about John Lackey is that the last time he had a healthy arm -- arguably 2009 -- baseball was in a different era with better hitters. Lackey's in the best shape of his career, and he's only pitching slightly better than his career numbers.
I'd argue the biggest concern is long term issues with his arm, or durability because he didn't pitch at all in 2012.
I made the comment about Papelbon jokingly a few days ago. At the time, I thought he had 1.5 years left on his deal, but he likely has 3.5 left. Maybe if the Phillies pay half...
Honestly, I think the trade will be very good for both teams. My team started out lopsided with far too much offense, and somehow I ended up picking up Mark Reynolds on the waiver wire and I was sitting on 6 players with 1B eligibility-- while my starting staff has really been suffering.
Obviously Papi has been crushing the ball lately, but if he has an MVP caliber year at the plate its win-win for me.
The thing about all those aging sluggers is that no matter how badly their eyes and contact skills decline, if they still have the power to be a problem.
The Sox are probably concerned about depth. Hernandez's numbers look good in AAA, but his fastball tops out at 86. Webster is probably a last resort-- only to be used if Doubront simply cannot go on. Pushing Felix to a long man role could be a problem in the long run.
Doubront gets one more start, and if he can't handle it, Morales is the sixth man.
I probably should listen to the better judgement of Ital-- no sense in taking advantage of your shuffleboard money. How about we up the stakes? I know you already have a few sig bets running, so how about a month-long avatar bet?
The deal is that you are getting the best player in the game for two waiver wire pickups who went undrafted. Justify it all you want. And sure, I'd take that bet-- assuming we're not including previously accrued fantasy points.
I would argue that it would disrupt the competitive balance. Jean Segura is having a great year, but it is fueled by a .400 BABIP, and he's historically been a low .800 OPS guy in the minors. He has a very bright future, and you could make the argument that with positional scarcity that he's a top 80 player. But, he's playing his first full year in the majorsr and will probably go through plenty of bumps in the road, and I just don't think the comparable value is close.
I keep thinking back to the based loaded double play in the 6th. What a game-defining play by Pedroia and Lavarnway. After a rough week, I'm back in love with this team.
