I'm going to do this early, since he's a new poster around here.

Even if the Yankees save money, they are very low on young controllable talent on this point. Cano, Granderson and Hughes hit free agency this year. Robertson and Gardner follow the year after.
Filling Kuroda's shoes seems nearly impossible, even if you can find a top tier guy to write a 200 million dollar check (Fun fact: They won't).
Filling Rivera's shoes is impossible.
3 open SP slots, 3B, LF, 2B, C, plus relief, and probably SS soon as well. They can't buy their way out of that hole.
Iglesias has seen his numbers go down over the last few games against very good pitchers, including Moore, Sabathia, Kuroda, Pettite, Colon, and Griffin. I don't see him being an offensive force, but I think he has proven that he'll be a perfectly suitable #9 hitter for this team.
Bartolo Colon revolutionized a new kind of cheating. You very well could call it Bartolo-Colon Surgery... although surprisingly no one else has done it yet. If the MLB could have given a lifetime ban to the first person who used roids, don't you think they would do so?
I wouldn't trade a top 5 prospect for KRod. The Succulent Breasts have done a pretty good job at getting players they want at their prices, Thornton being a good example. We'll definitely see a move, but it will be a more intelligent move than the Orioles did to pick him up. This does bring up the problem that we won't see Johnson blow another 15 saves this season
The other interesting option is Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. He's a 26 year old RHP with a 96 MPH fastball, and he could be picked up for 50ish million and thrown right into the pennant race. Besides Peavy, is there any other pitcher on the trading block anywhere remotely near as good as he is?
I have no idea, but it doesn't seem likely.
The organization is well under the luxury right now. Paying Wilson 10 million seems like it could potentially save the team much more if they hold onto a prospect like Brentz or Workman (the cost of someone like a K-rod).
Looking at Baseball America's rankings of the Rangers farm... They gave up their #2, #5, and #14 prospects. For the Sox that would be... Bradley, Owens, and Britton? Ew.
I've said this before, but Lackey is coming into a different world this season. Offenses around the league have been plummeting, and Lackey shows up three years later with a new arm and prime velocity. What do you think is going to happen? This is Lackey in his prime, but without roids hitting the ball with authority. If his arm holds up, He may decline a little, but at absolute worst he'll give vintage Mark Buerhle results, which were worth 16 million a year.
I'm done defending Stephen Drew. This is the second time this season he's come off the DL too early, immediately sucked at the plate, and pushed a Gold Glove caliber shortstop out of position.
Iglesias doesn't belong at 3B, and Bogaertz doesn't belong in AAA. Those two are gifts from the baseball gods, and mother mojo will eventually get mighty angry if we waste their talents during a pennant run for a mediocre shortstop rental.
The Sox have a future middle of the order bat sitting in triple A. I don't care if he's 20 years old, I'd rather him hitting home runs here than down there.
There is not a single pitcher on the bullpen roster right now with an ERA over 4 right now. The overall number is skewed because of garbage time pitchers, like Aceves and Hanrahan who will probably never pitch for the Red Sox ever again.
