  1. So there's no clutch, but there's clutch? What? You just described what people consider clutch after you said there is no clutch. Some people choke consistently under pressure, some people keep performing as usual, or even better in the toughest situations. Some people have the kind of clutch where they take over when the game's on the line. Sometimes those same people who've been clutch choke in a much bigger situation. Sometimes you have players who perform well in a lot of situations, then come the big game they're choking almost every time. Look at all sports, not just basketball how certain players perform in certain situations. I can't pretend to know how it is in a real game when you're out there playing, but almost everyone knows what it's like to have tons of pressure on you, and how difficult it can be to say/do things the way you normally do. That's how you hear so many people say "that was clutch!", because we all know what pressure can do to you, and it's impressive when someone hits a 3 to tie the game up with 3 seconds left in the 4th quarter. It's maddening when someone misses a 20 yard field goal to turn the ball over with a minute to go in the 4th quarter. I swear, some angry kid who was sick of people calling Kobe a clutch player came up with this "no clutch" thing, and suddenly people decided to go with it to sound all punk rock or something. Athletes are human, they're not above pressure.
  2. Oh we're not going to start the Lebron's clutch crap again are we? He was clutch in bigger situations than this, you should all give it a rest.
  3. It's unbelievable how stupid these arguments over who is or isn't a bandwagon fan get. Painfully stupid. I know it's Jacko, but it's silly to just accuse someone you don't even know of being a bandwagon fan.
  4. I know a700's been a Yanks fan since they were the Highlanders and he was the starting shortstop. That was the year he hit .700, of course.
  5. It's a flukey hot streak, but his power hitting is legit. He's going to cool off, he might even probably hit like .200 for a month, but I think his power hitting is legit, and I don't know if he's juicing. It sounds like there's a pretty good explanation for why he hit so many bombs last season not involving roids. I'd like to think there were still some awesome power hitters that aren't juicing during my lifetime, like Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols. I realize some of these guys could be juicing, but until they're busted, I'll just say they're bad ass hitters.
  6. Minnesota really has no living sports heroes anymore. I guess Fran Tarkenton is the closest we've got still living, Killer and Puckett are both gone now. Really sad day, RIP Killer.
  7. Does anyone know anything about scouting reports saying he was expected to hit around 35 homers last season? I remember having a discussion about whether or not he was juicing, and I guess he was expected to have a massive power surge just because he corrected his swing. I've never seen anything about this scouting report, I don't know if it's just something that some Jays fans came up with to stop steroid talk or what, but I've heard of it a few times since then.
  8. She is irritating as hell, not on the Kathy Griffin level, but she's pretty close.
  9. Gonz definitely has the power to lead any league in HR, he hit over 30 HRs in the NL West, even hitting 40 once. I understand there's games at Coors Field and Chase Field, which are both hitter friendly, but it also means SF, LA and 81 games at home, which was Petco Park. Now he's in the hitter-friendly AL East (NYS, Fenway and Camden Yards ftw). He's definitely got what it takes in place to lead the league in HRs if he's capable of hitting all those homers while playing at Petco Park, AT&T Park and Dodger Stadium for most of the season.
  10. Oh I know, but it's pretty unfair to compare him to Jordan. Lebron is good, he puts up some huge numbers, he can carry a team, but really. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html Those are stats no one in modern basketball will ever put up again. 7 consecutive scoring titles, 10 consecutive years that he played he won the scoring title. Some of the greatest players of all time went without titles because they couldn't beat Jordan. Even if someone is trying to be like Jordan, and he puts up big numbers, you shouldn't have to be compared to him for everything you do. Seriously, how many times have you seen someone, either on a website, or one of your buddies, or on ESPN, compare the two? Talcum powder ritual or not, I think we all know it's unreasonable to compare anyone to MJ.
  11. Probably because he couldn't possibly earn it, which is how records are meant to be set/broken. The Red Sox would have to force the issue at the cost of putting in some washed up knuckler who has nothing left. Wakefield could not possibly earn the record at this point, thus he doesn't deserve to have it.
  12. I totally understand MJ's point of view too, but Lebron owed nothing to Cleveland, I have to say that they did a horseshit job of putting a team around him for years. I can understand Lebron's frustration.
  13. I agree with you, but the media portrayed him as the second coming of Jordan. Obviously, I think we all know, there's probably not going to be anyone like Jordan. I'm sure MJ thinks what Lebron did was the right choice. However, he's always going to be in the shadow of Michael Jordan, everything he does there will be people who compare it to Jordan. It's sad, but that's just how it is. People will never shut up, and to them, Lebron will never be a real competitor, because he's not doing it like MJ. And no, Kobe doesn't even come close to Jordan, I think MJ towers over all others in the NBA. In other sports there's usually at least a handful or two of guys who you could consider the greatest of all time, but Jordan is head and shoulders above all others in basketball, and that's why it's sad that Lebron was made out to be like that. It's unreasonable to expect that. Although, I'd say he's done about as good a job as anyone could do of living up to such big expectations.
  14. In all fairness, the Spurs only beat the Suns (was it the next year, 2007?) because they used dirty tactics.
  15. No one's ever going to shut up since he didn't win it with Cleveland. It's sort of unfortunate, but he's going to always be compared to Michael Jordan, mainly because of the hype surrounding him, among other things. One of the things fans will always do is compare those two, and MJ won a championship sticking with a team that was so mediocre for most of his early career. MJ didn't win his first title til he was almost 30, and he did it with the team he was given. I'm not saying it's right, but that's what hype can do. James is never going to live down giving up on the Cavs because of how much he's compared to Jordan.
  16. No, just Heat fans are really obnoxious, I think it'd be nicer to make them shut up than to hear the Lebron haters shut up.
  17. And it would hurt the team to keep Wakefield out there just so they could get Clemens off of a record.
