And 2010. I like Lackey, but he's always been overrated. He's always been just a solid pitcher who was good for an upper-3 to lower-4 ERA. I think he can get back to there, maybe, but it's taking almost a year and a half now. They overpaid for what he was actually capable of, and they're getting less.

He's simply not capable of pitching effectively against competent teams anymore. He's out of gas, he needs to retire. Whether it was a short or long time ago that he was winning games is irrelevant when it's that visible that you have nothing left in the tank. Putting Wake as the 5th starter would hurt this team a lot.

If he's ever healthy. They built him up to be so good, that's what I hate about hype, if that if they start to have injuries, he'll never live it down if he isn't absolutely the sickest pitcher we've seen in a while. He's got the Mark Prior hype treatment.

Not really, he's making a lot of money, when he plays like they paid him to play, which is the guy who played for the Rays, he will stop getting s*** from the fans. Every high-paid player who struggles gets criticized, especially the newly-signed ones. As for Tito, I agree.

They will hold someone accountable, and it's usually the manager. I think the Tito bashing is pretty old too, but fans are going to get frustrated by his poor game-management skills, that have been on display and under fire even when he was winning games. This isn't new, it's just more intense now that the expectations are so high. I don't think the FO wants to see him waiting too long to pull a pitcher, or pulling his starter that's cruising, only to see his replacement get shelled. I think game-management in baseball is overrated, and that most of the manager's impact comes from how he does with his players, and Tito's one of the best with players. If the Sox miss the playoffs, I don't know if the FO will see it the same way.

At some point, you have to hold someone accountable for a severe underperformance. If the Red Sox were to miss the playoffs, it would most likely be the end of Francona, because of some of the decisions he's made that have cost the team leads, games, etc. And Crawford is not above criticism, I like how you changed it to "hating", brilliant job with the straw man. Uhhh, if any team believes Drew is a full-season player, I'll pay Drew's entire salary. You don't know how Boras sold Drew as, and even if you hate the Red Sox FO, it's pretty silly to actually believe that them, or anyone besides possibly the Mets would buy into that pitch. Regardless of his games plaid average, he's still earned his salary to this point, you can dispute it any way you want, but sabermetrics prove me correct every time. I'm not talking about this season, I'm talking about his entire contract.

I hope to God the Celtics go all in except for Rondo for him, I hope they're willing to give whatever it takes, I'm just not sure that's enough, though. They don't have stuff to trade anymore, but I can dream. Howard with Rondo would be so awesome, assuming they have a proper supporting cast.

Except Drew had a proven track record, and his stats back up his value. Also, Scutaro's value is inflated by his position, so that's a pretty crappy example, you know better than that.

Lol, I didn't see you posted, I agree with you too, he's definitely not earning it atm. However, that's not the point I was making, it was specifically targeted against those who complain about how he has a terrible contract. Regardless of how he does this season, he will finish his Red Sox career as a non-disappointment statistically, whether or not people here will notice is up to them, it's just annoying. I do agree though, he either needs to step it up, or he needs to get benched for a while.
