  1. No team keeps all of their starters healthy all year, but how many other teams were fortunate enough to have four of their starters make over 30 starts last year? Things went pretty well for them last year.
  2. It sounds like 5 other teams are interested, including the Angels. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=4903359
  3. I can't find any batting stats for Hachevarria, can you? All I know is that Iglesias hit .322/.356/.430 as an 18 year old for La Habana.
  4. I imagine we'll use him against lefties who he hits .270/.339/.471 against.
  5. Do you have any proof at all to back up your personal opinion?
  6. Because Daisuke would pitch 130-140 pitches per start every week as opposed to every 5 days in the major leagues.
  7. You don't think any other team in baseball would have offered him $12 million a year? IMHO that's kind of silly. It was a player's market and Drew was only 30 years old, coming off back-to-back years of being one of the better OF in baseball.
  8. Yeah, I think people are freaking out because he was hurt last year and thinking "not again". Over his career though, he has been a horse. And the team has said he'll start the season on time multiple times now. I could care less if he misses his first ST start, that's what ST is for. I'm sure he won't be the only member of the staff to skip a start in ST.
  9. You're right, any team that has troubles with their starting pitching will struggle to make the playoffs. I don't understand why people are making an issue out of it with the Red Sox though. We have one of the deepest rotations in baseball and are a top 5 offensive and defensive team. We're as balanced a team as there is.
  10. I never said the GM should pay infinite cash. But if a GM signs a player to less than they're worth, then he's doing his job correctly. You don't think Drew would have signed for $12 million a year, do you?
  11. Yeah, things actually went remarkably well for the Yankees rotation last year. They have FOUR pitchers who made over 30 starts. Red Sox starting pitching had a lot more troubles last year which is why I was excited when they signed a horse like Lackey.
  12. I don't think Abreu is a similar situation since coming off his age 34 season which was the worst of his career according to WAR. He could barely play the outfield anymore. Drew was coming off his age 30 season, in which he had the second best WAR of his career and played great defense.
  13. According to WAR, Drew's been worth $46.2 million ($15.4 million per year) over the last three years while being paid $42 million ($14 million per year). I think his contract has been more than fair.
  14. Daisuke isn't expected to be ready for the start of ST now, but he's expected to be ready in plenty of time for the start of the season. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/red_sox/index.php/2010/02/16/dice-k-likely-to-miss-start-of-spring/
  15. That's true. Hence why it's not fair to compare the CS% of Red Sox catchers to other teams, given the extreme team philosophy surrounding SB.
  16. It's not a man crush, it's rational thinking. He's one of the best OF in baseball.
  17. Anyone still think he's an ace because of his win totals in 2007 and 2008 with the best offense in baseball behind him?
  18. So essentially, Hochevarria isn't really more of a complete package and he doesn't have a stronger arm, he just has a better bat. Is this correct?
