  1. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/02/matsuzaka_on_hi.html He did shuttle runs yesterday and he'll be throwing again tomorrow. Sounds like Daisuke's fine.
  2. I don't care what Schilling says. I'd rather sign Cliff Lee.
  3. The Cubs were rumored to have matched the deal Boston offered Drew. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/11/two-year-offer.html Care to try again?
  4. Looks like Daisuke's back is feeling better.
  5. He doesn't really apply to the break out candidate thing, but I invision Varitek being a tremendous offensive backup catcher and getting re-signed as the backup after this year. I think he could post an .850 OPS with routine rest. He's always done well at the beginning of the year before he wears down in the second half.
  6. http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2010/02/16/4-beckgut__1266347199_4297.jpg And the gut makes it's annual debut.
  7. He wasn't very good as a reliever in 2008 (3.84 ERA, 1.46 WHIP).
  8. I would love for Buchholz to be a breakout candidate next year. If either him or Daisuke pitch like top of the rotation starters, we'll probably be the best team in baseball. But I'm troubled by Buch's poor peripherals last year. His 1.38 WHIP (.289 BABIP) and 4.69 FIP don't exactly scream dominance. Hopefully he can kick it up a notch next year.
  9. Perhaps the Swiss are better than people thought when they were criticizing the U.S. team for not beating them by a wider margin.
  10. The Red Sox put him on a strengthening program this offseason to protect against injury. It looks like he's in for a good year and the last time he was healthy he was a Cy Young candidate.
  11. Red Sox: Ellsbury. I think he'll regain the patience he displayed in the minors and when he first came up to the majors and become an elite leadoff hitter. MLB: Kyle Banks. He had an .869 OPS as a 22 year old for the Padres last year in his first 54 major league games. Over his minor league career he's been a .304/.392/.505 hitter.
  12. And the Yankees counter Boof Bonser! Wow, what a heated offseason.
  13. Lackey threw 40 pitches off the mound today and he looked strong. Wakefield through as well and he didn't look so hot. Might have something to do with why they're stretching out Boof Bonser. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/02/lackey_ready_to.html I'm excited to have Lackey in the rotation, it's essentially like having 2 Becketts behind Lester. Pitchers are usually further along than hitters in April, I'm hoping we can get off to a fast start put some games between us and the competition.
  14. The Sox are stretching him out to be the 7th starter if need be. Sounds like he's our 12th pitcher.
